Earth Day Learning Resources

Dear educators,

Edcamp Northwoods presented by Wisconsin Public Television Education is just around the corner! Join us on April 21 at Tomahawk Middle School for this participant-driven professional learning event. We hope to see you there!

Earth Day is also quickly approaching. Are you in need of Earth Day learning resources for your class? We've got you covered!
You could use Climate Wisconsin to prompt discussion with your students about how climate change has affected Wisconsin activities like farming and skiing. Chief Oshkosh: Leader in Troubled Times, a Wisconsin Biographies story, provides the history on how and why the Menominee carefully manage their forest. Looking for primary sources? Explore Earth Days: The Seeds of a Revolution – Photo Gallery: Earth Day Across America, a collection of images from the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970.

Earth Day-themed broadcasts are also airing on Wisconsin Public Television throughout April! Remember, many of the programs can be streamed online if you don't catch them live on television.

Until next month,

Becky Marburger
Education Specialist, WPT Education

From Wisconsin Public Television

Story Lab
Teach your students about Wisconsin’s past using the history stories found on WPT's Story Lab. Inspired by Jerry Apps: One-Room School, these short videos, essays, and audio files collect and preserve the diverse life and stories of Wisconsin residents. Stories about education experiences are currently featured on the website with additional topics to be added in the future. Want to encourage your students to record their history? Tips for how to tell a compelling story are also included.
