Dear educators,

The Wisconsin Public Television offices are buzzing this September as our education team puts the finishing touches on new resources and makes plans for opportunities to connect with you this school year.

Keep an eye on our newsletter and social media for new releases, events, and timely highlights from our collection of resources that are designed to meet your students’ needs.

From new Wisconsin Biographies to collaborations with PBS Newshour Student Reporting Labs, and so much more, it is going to be an exciting year. In my opinion, Wisconsin has the most passionate, innovative educators in the world. Our children are in great hands. Thank you for the work that you do every day.

With appreciation,

Alyssa Tsagong
Director of Education, WPT Education

Mildred Fish-Harnack Day (September 16)

Remember the life of the only U.S. woman ordered executed by the Gestapo in Nazi Germany during World War II using these resources:
Wisconsin Day (September 20) and Frances Willard Day (September 28)

Celebrate the characteristics that make Wisconsin a desirable place to live and work on Wisconsin Day using Wisconsin Hometown Stories. This program shows the evolution of our state's communities and its residents' stories.

Use segment five of Wisconsin Hometown Stories: Janesville to observe Frances Willard Day, a day set aside to honor Frances Willard, an educator and women's suffragist during the late 1800s.

Bullying Awareness Day (September 27)

Acknowledge the effects of bullying on Bullying Awareness Day using two of WPT Education's resources:
  • Bully Dance
Includes a 10-minute animation and a teaching guide. For grades 3-12.

  • If a Bully Watches This
Includes a 30-minute video and a teaching guide. For grades 6-12.
Google Classroom and Class Roster

PBS LearningMedia added two new features:
  • Class Roster
Educators now have the ability to create their own class roster, which enables them to assign specific lessons to students and monitor student progress. To find this feature, click "Classes" in the Dashboard menu within the teacher view of PBS LearningMedia.

  • Google Classroom
A share button to import PBS LearningMedia resources directly into Google Classroom was added. To find the button, navigate to the resource you wish to add and click the green Google Classroom button located to the upper right of the resource's description.
