Calling all water system owners and administrators!

YWWOP, in partnership with Government of Yukon Environmental Health Services and Apprendo Learning Systems, has developed a short self-paced online course specifically for water system owners and other key decision makers in the Yukon. The course takes about two hours to complete.

In this new course, Taking Care of your Drinking Water System, Mayors, Chiefs, municipal councillors, First Nation councillors, chief executive officers, senior administrators, and territorial and federal government employees will learn about safe drinking water practices, regulatory requirements and roles of system owners and operators.

A survey at the recent Yukon Water and Wastewater Conference found that 55% of those surveyed responded “A little” to the question – to what extent do you feel your community leaders understand and can make decisions regarding your community’s water issues? 30% answered “more than a little but not a lot.”

This course provides awareness and knowledge that are critical to making good decisions about water systems in the Yukon.

Water System course, visit the

Comment on a draft standard from CSA Group:
Municipal Wastewater Treatment in Northern Communities using Lagoon and Wetland Systems

CSA Group is pleased to announce that CSA W203 - Municipal Wastewater Treatment in Northern Communities using Lagoon and Wetland Systems is now available for public review.

The review period closes on January 16, 2019.

The goal of this standard is to address the objectives of enabling sustainable design and management of northern wastewater systems, considering all phases of their life-cycles and decisions regarding facility closure and decommissioning versus service life extension. The end net objective is the safe discharge of water into the environment in terms of protecting the environment and human health.

The draft standard covers the following:
    - Planning and siting
    - Design
    - Operation, Maintenance and Monitoring of Lagoons and Wetlands
    - Closure and Reclamation of Lagoons and Wetlands

Please click here to review the document and provide comments.

Please note that you must register with an email address to access the Public Review area.
YWWOP classes and EOCP exam sessions can be facilitated at any Yukon College community campus or surrounding NWT and Northern BC communities on an on-demand basis. Alternatively, YWWOP classes are available through web-conferencing.
