October's Board of Education Meeting began with thunderous applause for the 220 students recognized for attaining a perfect score on the 2019 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).
California students in grades three through eight and eleven participate in the Smarter Balanced Assessments each spring. The assessments are computer-based tests that measure a student's knowledge of California's English language arts/literacy and mathematics.
The assessment is part of a comprehensive plan to promote high-quality teaching and learning.
It is an incredible privilege and honor to recognize the achievement, hard work and dedication exemplified by these students and their families. You can view the entire award ceremony on our website's announcement feed.
The Camp Fire was one of the deadliest and most destructive wildfires within California. Chico Unified School District will join with all of Butte County to pause, remember and reflect on the event that impacted so many lives. Our goal is to pay respect to those who lost their lives and to recognize the survivors and those who provided help during the most difficult of times. We will have counseling services available for staff and students.
The Paradise Chamber of Commerce is promoting the moment of silence, and they're asking all of Butte County to join them at 11:08 a.m. on 11/8/19 (elementary activities will take place on Thursday, 11/7/19).
Together, we are Brave. Joined, we are resilient, and moving forward, we are hopeful.
Tobacco Prevention & Education
In 2018, Chico Unified School District was awarded a Tobacco Law Enforcement Grant. The joint proposal included a partnership with the City of Chico, the Chico Police Department and Chico Unified School District.
Our overarching goal is to provide the monitoring, enforcement, education and outreach to help reduce, and eventually eliminate, the use of tobacco by our school-aged youth.
