Welcome to my 2022 Summer Recess Newsletter
Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Summer Recess 2022 edition of my newsletter. I hope the below will give you a taster of my work over the past few months around Mid Fife and Glenrothes.

The Scottish Parliament's recess provides an excellent opportunity for MSPs to spend more time in the constituency. Meeting with constituents and visiting local businesses and charities are some of the best parts of my job, and over the past few weeks I've enjoyed getting out and about in the constituency.

In August I met with Gavin Harrower at the newly opened Kennoway Pump Track.  It was fantastic to hear how popular the pump track already is with locals and visitors alike, and of all the plans that are in place for the venue going forward.

The cost of living continues to rise, and I know this is a worrying time for many constituents. In this newsletter you will find links to support and information which I hope will be of some use. Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you require my help in any way.

I am holding several in-person surgeries over the coming weeks for any issues my constituents have. You can also get in touch by email to arrange a phone appointment.

I hope you find the below interesting and useful. Please do get in touch if you have any queries.

Take care,

Jenny Gilruth MSP
Working for you in Mid Fife and Glenrothes
Upper Largo Bus Stop

It was great to meet with my constituent, Helen last week at the bus stop I helped her install in Upper Largo - Helen and her late friend, Catherine, contacted my office after Fife Council refused to implement a physical bus stop near her home. This campaign was successful after we got support from Stagecoach and applied pressure on the Council.

It was wonderful to discuss the success with Helen and see the positive impact this bus stop has on her life and for other’s in the community.
Kennoway Community Shed

It was good to catch up with Bob again at the Kennoway Community Shed.
The Shed has made some big changes since my last visit, and Bob showed me round their extensive community garden, complete with greenhouse and polytunnel.

I was pleased to get a demonstration from beekeeper Andrew, and to see the colourful 'bee shed', which teaches school children all about bees.

Kennoway Community Shed is a place for anyone over the age of 18 who would like to be more involved in the community.
Meeting Lower Largo Friendship Group

At the start of Recess I also had the opportunity to meet with the Lower Largo Friendship Group.

The group came out in full-force, and it was a great opportunity to discuss the vitally important work that they are providing for young adults with additional support needs and their families throughout Fife.
Levenmouth Rail Campaign
As the first mile of track of the Levenmouth Rail Link has been placed, I have continued to engage with the Levenmouth Task Force to assess the progress of the project.

This week, I will be visiting the main site with Minister Patrick Harvie to visit stakeholders and see first-hand the progress of the project.

Fife Council have also recently organised an event for constituents to have their say on the new station's design next Wednesday.
Kingdom Housing Association Visit
As housing is one of the main issues constituent's contact me about, I was pleased to meet with Kingdom Housing Association’s CEO Bill Banks, to discuss the housing opportunities and challenges within Mid Fife and Glenrothes.

We also had the chance to discuss KHA’s progress towards Net Zero and their some of their local anti-homelessness initiatives.
Cafe Inc

At the start of the month I visited Cafe Inc at Sandy Brae Community Centre in Kennoway, where volunteers hand out free packed lunches from 12 - 2pm.

I was pleased that these provisions were put in place across the constituency to ensure children did not go hungry over the summer holidays and would like to thank all volunteers involved who helped provide such crucial help to families across Fife outwith term-time.
Summer Surgeries
Over the course of recess, I have held many advice surgeries across the constituency. This has been a great opportunity to get out into the community and meet face-to-face with my constituents to discuss the issues that really matter to them.

I also plan to hold a further 9 surgeries, many with my fellow SNP elected colleagues, throughout recess to provide more tailored advice for attendees.
Cost of Living Crisis  - Getting Help
The energy price cap rise this month has contributed further to the UK Government's spiralling cost of living crisis. I appreciate that this is an incredibly difficult time for many. I have included information below on available support and information which may prove useful. If you know someone who is struggling, please encourage them to get in touch.

Semefab Visit

It was great to meet with the team at Semefab at the start of August and to have the opportunity to tour their facility. Semefab has played a vital role in the fight against Covid-19, producing semiconductors for use in COVID-19 related applications in the medical and healthcare sectors.

I was pleased to discuss the company's recent successes and the ways I can support them in my role as Glenrothes' MSP.
Riverside Park Picnic

This week, I had the opportunity to visit the Riverside Park picnic in Glenrothes. It was great to meet with local residents, and see families enjoying all of the fun activities on offer - especially the big bug hunt!

I also spoke with local groups and discussed how I can support them in my position as MSP.
Visit to Homestart Glenrothes
In Recess I also have had the opportunity to meet the fantastic team at Home Start Glenrothes to discuss some of their work in Macedonia and to see first-hand the support they are providing with Cafe Inc free meals for families this summer.

Recess is a great opportunity to meet with some of the fantastic organisations supporting constituents in Glenrothes and to offer my support.
Visit to ADTRA

This month I headed over to Auchmuty to meet with Avril at Auchmuty and Dovecot Tenant's and Residents Association to discuss issues currently facing local residents and how we can work together for the best solutions for those in the community.

ADTRA carry out fantastic work for local residents and I am always pleased to support and assist wherever I can do so as MSP.
Lower Largo Beach Bathing

I was pleased to meet with representatives of the Largo Area Community Council, Largo Communities Together and Scottish Water, to mark the recent award of Lower Largo’s beach bathing status for the 2022 season.

It was a pleasure to meet in-person with Matt Allan, Louise Robb and Scott Fraser, to discuss this fantastic achievement and the vital work that is being carried out by Scottish Water and SEPA throughout the summer.

I look forward to continuing working closely with the local community and stakeholders, as we build on this success and work together to improve the water quality at Lower Largo for both residents and visitors alike.
Visit to Modern Standard Coffee
Last Friday, I started another busy day with a visit to Modern Standard Coffee in Glenrothes - Modern Standard roast coffee for local and international wholesale clients, and I was able to see how the coffee is roasted, sorted and packed.

Small and medium businesses enrich our community, and it is always good to catch up and hear about the successes and challenges of businesses in the constituency.
Scotch Whisky Investments meeting

Last week, I met with Keith Rennie, Director of Scotch Whisky Investments at the site for their new storage facility in Glenrothes.

It was fantastic to learn about the plans for the new business within the local area and the investment in Glenrothes.
Mighty Cycles Leslie

At the start of Recess I also met Chris from Mighty Cycles in Leslie and seen some of his first-class bikes.

It was fantastic to meet with another small business owner within the constituency and see the work which they carry out both in-store and in the community.
