Welcome to my February 2020 newsletter
It was a privilege to meet with Scotland's First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, last Monday and accept her nomination to join the Scottish Government as Minister for Europe and International Development.

Confirming the nomination in the Scottish Parliament a few days later, the First Minister said:

"Jenny Gilruth has used her experience as a teacher to inform, for the better, many a debate in Parliament, and she has also been - I am sure she will continue to be - a true champion of her constituency"

As the constituency MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes, I will continue to work as hard as ever on behalf of my constituents locally.

Yours for Scotland,

Jenny Gilruth MSP
Scottish Government Budget Agreement
I was delighted that the SNP Scottish Government reached an agreement to pass our Budget this week

The Budget deal includes an extra £95 million for local authorities, including an extra £6.4 million for Fife Council.

The Budget also invests a record £15 billion in health and social care services,  delivers Scotland's unique child payment to lift our youngest out of poverty, and supports Scotland's world-leading efforts to tackle the climate crisis.

There's an extra £60 million for Police Scotland - £50 million of which will be invested in frontline policing - and the budget also paves the way for free bus travel for everyone aged 18 and under, which I know will make a huge difference in Mid Fife and Glenrothes.
Planned improvements to the A92
I was pleased to meet with members of the North Glenrothes Community Council on planned improvements to the A92 locally.

This was a pre-meeting ahead of our meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Michael Matheson MSP, in the Scottish Parliament in March.
My next advice surgeries will be held on Monday 23 and Friday 27 March. Please contact my office on 01592 764815 to make an appointment.

Madhouse Bakery Wins Business Award
I called into the Madhouse Bakery to congratulate owner Kelly and the team on their win at the Fife Retail Business Awards 2020. They won the Best Specialised Retailer or Brand category. A visit to the café is highly recommended at the Coachworks on Woodside Road.
Interactive App Explores Fife History
I met with Fife Tourism Partnership to discuss their 'In the Footsteps of Kings' app - Scotland's first augmented reality app that aims to bring to life the story of Scotland's kings across Fife. One of the locations is Markinch Parish Church. The project has received Scottish Enterprise funding and the app has been downloaded 1,400 times so far.

Police Scotland Levenmouth Update
Community Inspector Paul Gillespie provided me with an update on police work in Leven, Lundin Links and the Largos. It was great to hear about the significant reduction in antisocial behaviour as well as the division's work with Police Scotland Youth Volunteers.
Welcoming Scotland's Baby Box Uptake
I have welcomed the news that 7,907 families in Fife have benefitted from the Scottish Government's Baby Box scheme. Across Scotland, 120,000 Baby Boxes have been delivered since April 2017. Scotland's Baby Box contains a selection of clothes as well as every day must-haves such as a bath towel, travel changing mat and thermometer.
