Welcome to my Spring 2020 newsletter
Our way of life has completely changed as we respond as a nation to the unprecedented health and economic challenges posed by COVID-19 coronavirus.

Scotland's First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has said life "should not feel normal" right now. And that is likely to be the case for some time to come.

I understand that this is an anxious and uncertain time for many of my constituents and particularly for some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.

However, I want to reassure you that help is at hand locally and nationally, which is why I'm dedicating my Spring newsletter to sharing some of that local and national support information with you.

I ask that you, in turn, share this newsletter with your friends and family.

We'll get through this together.

Take care,

Jenny Gilruth MSP
Mid Fife and Glenrothes Resources Graphic
I have put together a local support and information resource for my constituents in Mid Fife and Glenrothes to use during the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.

I would like to extend my thanks to all in the local community who are working together to provide assistance to our most vulernable.

Glenrothes and Levenmouth foodbanks desperately need donations at this time, which is why I've opened up my constituency office at 12 Commercial Street in Markinch as a donation point.

The door is open Monday - Friday from 10 am - 4 pm for you to make a contactless donation whilst out on your daily exercise.

In the coming days and weeks I ask that you follow the Scottish Government's advice to shop considerately - only buy what you and your family need and, if you can, a little extra to make a foodbank donation.
I am holding regular telephone advice surgeries from 11.00 am every Monday and Friday. Please email at or call my constituency office on 01592 764815 to make an appointment.
My constituency team and I are working remotely with secure access to emails and our casework system.

Constituents who need my help or advice about coronavirus or any other issue can continue to contact me at any time by email to

If you are fit to do so, please give blood when the blood donation service next returns to Fife. The community is pulling together and this type of activity continues to help our NHS and future patients. £350 million  to support communities affected by coronavirus
I have also welcomed the Scottish Government's commitment to provide £350 million to help people who are most affected by coronavirus. The money will help those facing financial hardship including anyone struggling to pay rent or afford food or fuel. This is critical support for communities, charities and families.

Open letter to Mid Fife and Glenrothes businesses
On 26 March, I wrote an open letter to businesses in the constituency sharing information about government support available to help them temporarily close and asking those not involved in essential work to fight the coronaviru to keep their employees at home. My office has been inundated with anxious emails and phone calls from employees at companies across the constituency and I continue to make representations on their behalf.

On 1 April, the Cabinet Secretary for the Constitution and External Affairs, Michael Russell MSP, led a ministerial team to pass the Coronavirus (Scotland) Bill in the Scottish Parliament. It is the first time legislation has ever been started and completed in a single day. I was pleased that the bill was given unanimous support by MSPs and was proud to play my part in its delivery.

The bill gives the Scottish Government new emergency powers to help tackle the challenges posed to our nation by the coronavirus outbreak. Crucially, the bill gives a number of increased protections for Scottish citizens during the outbreak.
I thank each and every one of our health care workers in NHS Fife and across Scotland; all of our carers; our council staff; and our emergency services for their work on the frontline during the COVID-19 outbreak. Scotland owes you a debt of gratitude.

I'd also like to thank all of the community groups and volunteers from Rose Duncan and the team at Collydean Community Centre to Kats Mission in Kinglassie to the Levenmouth Covid-19 Mutual Aid volunteer group for stepping up to help some of the most vulnerable people in our communities at this time.

Finally, I would like to say thank you to all of my constituents who are following the latest health advice to stay at home as much as possible to help stop the spread of the disease and protect our NHS.
