Welcome to my January 2020 newsletter
Brexit will become official at 11.00 pm tonight, Friday 31 January 2020, and Scotland will be forced to leave the EU despite an overwhelming majority vote to remain.

In my contribution to the debate on Scotland's future on Wednesday, I spoke directly to the European nationals I represent: "I am so sorry. You have been let down. This is your country - please stay with us."

I spoke about my constituent from Germany who has lived with her husband in Glenrothes for nearly 30 years; works as a foster carer for Fife Council; gives love and protection to some of the most vulnerable children in our society; and has been denied 'Settled Status' on three occasions.

Scotland has the right to choose its own future. On Wednesday, a majority of MSPs voted in favour of holding a second independence referendum later this year. We can choose to be an open, inclusive, independent European nation.

Yours for Scotland,

Jenny Gilruth MSP
Jenny's Schools Internship Scheme 2020
I was delighted to meet with the Pupil Parliament at Glenrothes High School on 24 January to launch my 2020 Schools Internship Scheme.

S5 and S6 pupils from Auchmuty, Glenrothes and Glenwood high schools can apply for the chance to gain an insight into the work of a local MSP's office. One pupil from each school will join Jenny's constituency team for a one-week internship in June.

The closing date for applications is this Friday, 7 February.

Supporting the WASPI campaign
I raised the WASPI campaign in the Scottish Parliament and highlighted the case of my constituent, Jane Barr, who was forced to take early retirement and rely on food banks as she did not qualify for the full state pension.

Scottish Enterprise MSP Advice Clinic
I sponsored Scottish Enterprise's drop in advice clinic in the Scottish Parliament, which provided MSPs with an opportunity to ask questions about ongoing business issues and activities in their constituencies and regions.
Welcoming the Scottish Child Payment
I have welcomed the Scottish Government's announcement of a ground-breaking £10 weekly Scottish Child Payment that will help around 32,100 children in 19,000 families across Fife when applications open later this year.
