An update from Bridget Fewtrell, President & CEO

ErinoakKids is excited to soon welcome our more than 16,000 clients, families and visitors to our new sites beginning in January 2018! This move to new, purpose-built facilities has been eagerly awaited and we could not be more thrilled about what this means for children and youth with disabilities living in Halton, Peel and Dufferin. Now, for the first time, client families will have access to nearly all services and supports under one roof, right in their communities.

Our new Mississauga site will open Thursday, January 25, our Oakville site on Friday, January 26 and our Brampton site on Monday, January 29. All current ErinoakKids sites, with the exception of our Orangeville location, will close permanently.

Each of our new facilities will be home to a significantly enhanced autism program, which includes classrooms, teaching areas and activity spaces. The new locations will also offer several specialized medical clinics such as neuromuscular, spina bifida, orthopedic and orthotic clinics, along with therapy services such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy and recreation therapy.

Adding to the indoor spaces, are outdoor therapeutic playgrounds, a courtyard and more – all designed to provide children and youth with spaces that help develop gross motor skills, encourage creative play and social interaction.

With these new buildings, ErinoakKids is poised to provide better co-ordinated services and supports for children and youth with disabilities, and, in the coming months, we look forward to welcoming our partners and communities to these wonderful new spaces!

ErinoakKids' new locations to open in January 2018

ErinoakKids three new sites, one in Oakville, another in Mississauga and a third in Brampton, will open in January! These new sites will replace our existing 11 sites and will be fully accessible and appropriately designed to provide care to children and youth with a broad range of disabilities and special needs. We can’t wait for the ErinoakKids community to see them in person! In the meantime, take a sneak peek into our new sites!

ErinoakKids helps Jonathan thrive

When Jonathan Hotham was three years-old, he could not talk, had frequent meltdowns and would often bang his head against hard surfaces when frustrated. Concerned about his behavior and already managing a child with special needs, Jonathan’s parents, Ken and Vanessa, turned to ErinoakKids. Clinicians first placed Jonathan in the Preschool Speech and Language program to help develop his speech. Eight months later, he was flagged as showing signs of autism. ErinoakKids paired Jonathan with an integrated services facilitator to help. Read the full story >>

Expanded physiotherapy services are now available at ErinoakKids

ErinoakKids recently expanded its pediatric physiotherapy clinic to include services such as ligament sprains, repetitive strain injury, and muscle, ligament and tendon tears. Services are covered by OHIP with a referral from a physician. Only children/youth up to 19 years-old are eligible for services.  Learn more here >>
ErinoakKids' resource serves as guide for speech and language development
ErinoakKids has created two ‘Look What I can do’ booklets for parents and teachers as a speech and language resource targeted to preschool-aged children. These booklets serve as a guide for both teachers and parents throughout the first five years of a child's speech and language development. They give examples of the speech and language milestones that children often meet at different ages. For example, by six months, a baby should watch your face while you talk or make babbling sounds. By two years of age, children should combine two to four words together and refer to real life past events.
