EMISSIONS LAW EVENT: QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Last Thursday, over 300 people gathered to learn about the new building emissions law. Expert panelists answered audience questions, including: “Which renewable energy credits (RECs) can be used to offset carbon emissions?”

Their answer: The law limits REC offsets to renewable energy generating sources located in or directly deliverable to NYC (the Zone J electric load zone). Eligible RECs can be purchased and deducted from a building’s annual emissions, adding greater flexibility. Details will be further specified in rules from the Department of Buildings.

There wasn't enough time to answer every question, but stay tuned for more updates and resources. In the meantime, check out our Law Summary and FAQs, and register for our conference, Retrofitting to Scale.
