Wow. What a start to the season. Just over a month in and we've already run a breadth of events from the all member working day, to GSC Safety refresher and of course some races. We've held a couple of discover sailing days; the last of which we took out almost 15 visitors to try sailing. It was phenomenal and all thanks to you who have come down to help and brought people with you.

These events have been superbly run and we have taken the time to review them to see what we can do better, particularly with regards to safety.  With that in mind you will see some tweaks happening with events in the future; please ensure you attend all briefings and ask the Officer On Duty (OOD) if you aren't sure. I will also be running an online discussion (akin to K&N) to run through some of the thoughts and outcomes. Dates will be released just as soon as i've sorted my calendar out!

The effort put in by GSC members has been phenomenal this month. Please take a moment to thank those involved in the vast amount of projects going on when you see them. If you see the MVS please also thank Alan and Jason who spent the majority of their Sunday fixing the crane mechanism which had partly seized. Without them the discover sailing event would have been challenging; i'm not sure i would've liked to launch safety + five dinghies!

With mental health awareness week occuring this week I am cognisant of how much I value the club, our sport and also the phenomenal community we have. In what can often be a lonely and critical world the club is there providing a safe haven and a place to just be. I hope you feel the same and continue to offer your uplifting camradarie and support when you can, and come and get some when you need it.

The Club Book is now available. They are ready for collection in the clubhouse. Any that aren't collected by Sunday will be posted.

The book includes a centre pull out calendar of club events. Feedback on format very welcome; it's something new we are trying out.
Have you noticed the club looking smarter? The sign has been repainted, the club walls have been refreshed as well as some less obvious but much needed maintenance.

There are still a few more odd jobs to complete. Can you help? These range from more painting of pontoon handrails, changing lampshades to jet washing the pontoon.

Email Duncan ( if you can spare any time at all.
All events are in the programme. Next key events include:
  • Saturday 21st May: Jubilee BBQ Celebration 1630hrs onwards
  • Sunday 22nd May: Discover Sailing 1600hrs onwards all hands on deck!
  • Saturday 9th July: Medway Big Sail*

*Please let Paul know if you are thinking of joining in. He needs to reserve approximately the right number of berths.

**New for this season! The GSC Dinghy Regatta held over a weekend is open to all GSC dinghy classes. Make sure you sort your crew and reserve your boat for what will be an excellent weekend. The Dayboat Open weekend will be running as part of this and we will be welcoming YWDB visitors from across the UK. Whether you are joining in the sailing or supporting from the shore, get the date in your diary and join us for a social evening on the Saturday.

At the moment we are only inviting visiting Dayboaters to test the water. We will be reviewing this following the event and if appropriate and manageable will look to open to more dinghy classes and local clubs for future years.
