Get the sailing bug: June News

Well that month flew by. We started with three of our members passing their RYA dinghy instructor pre-assessment. Well done to Sean, Leon and Chris and good luck on your upcoming dinghy instructor courses. Even more thanks go to Sean for getting this off the ground, including securing funding from the Port of London Authority.

On to some discover sailing days, past the Jubilee BBQ and some dinghy and cruiser races. All very well supported by attendees and helpers alike. Plus we have a new member, Freya, who has joined with Toby ("Nixie"), welcome! Well done everyone for our second fantastic month this season.

June and July are just as busy, with the RYA Level 2 training course coming up. Please do pop down and help. If there are no jobs to do, a cheerful face, someone to take a line and delivery of a warm cup of tea goes miles especially for the instructors and safety crew that are volunteering their weekend on the water. Or being June, maybe an icecream would work better...

Saturday 11th June | Tomorrow!!
The MVS are holding a summer fun day for young people and vulnerable adults using GSC as their base. They put together a fantastic and busy day and would greatly appreciate any help GSC members can give. It is a wonderfuly atmosphere down there so I do recommend popping down when you can and just saying hi.

In particular, we are looking for a confident powerboat driver to take Clifford M out as part of the fun day. If you can help please email me.

Club House
When leaving the club please ensure it is left as you would wish to find it. We are all responsible for keeping it clean and tidy. This includes loading and unloading the bar dishwasher, taking the bar bottles and cans to recycling, wiping down all surfaces, tables and coffee tables and clearing up any spillages fully.

Hopefully you have all received invoices for your membership fees. If you haven't please email Hayley ( Prompt payment into the account on the invoice, with the reference would be greatly appreciated as it saves the treasurers much time in cross-matching payments. Invoices for storage fees etc will be out soon.

Storage of items
All items on club property must be labelled.
Please do this as a matter of urgency; anything unlabelled will be disposed of including the pile of unloved trailers in the south yard.
All events are in the programme which is in the centre of the club book. If you haven't yet recieved yours please email Chris (membership@).
Next key events include:
  • Saturday 9th July: Medway Big Sail!
  • Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th August: GSC Dinghy Regatta
  • Saturday 19th November: GSC Duck Supper
The Duck Supper is our annual prizegiving and supper. Sailors leave their boots at the door and arrive looking relatively smart for an evening full of good food, laughter and great company.
