Thanks to all of you who attended Wednesday night's meeting and contributed to a powerful evening. Melissa was an amazing speaker whose message of survival and empowerment couldn't have been more timely. @Jessica's presentation on domestic violence policy was illuminating, as ever, and @Sylvia Squire's poem ended the evening on a touching and inspiring note. I also hope my update on women candidates left you feeling both hopeful and determined in the final countdown to the midterms.
For those of you who couldn't make the meeting, the main message is we REALLY need more women in office (duh!). They need us as women voters and supporters. And though the record number of women running is certainly cause for celebration, many are running in tough races and we need to get fully behind them now to assure their victories.
Women’s Caucus Book Club – October 25th, 6:30 – 9 p.m.
The DAUK Women’s Caucus Book Club is back for October! This time we will be reading Her Body and Other Parties, a collection of short stories by Carmen Maria Machado, which has been shortlisted for several literary prizes. In the tradition of Angela Carter, Machado takes fairy tales and twists and turns them, allowing her work to straddle horror, comedy, fantasy, psychological realism and feminism all at the same time.
“[Machado’s] use of a vivid experimental lens to show women struggling for agency is startling.”–The New Yorker
