Hey <<First Name>>,

Friday is here! And hopefully most of you got paid today and are enjoying those sweet, sweet stock market returns. If you’re new to the newsletter, welcome to my weekly round-up where I share latest posts, interesting things I see around the web, and top-secret sale stuff I don’t share anywhere else.

LATEST POST
Ever log into Instagram and wonder how everyone else seems to afford to travel? They may not be smarter than you, or richer than you. But they may just be more opportunistic than you. Read about how I’m flying in style to New Zealand.
If you’ve ever had questions on how to travel for less, now’s your time to shine! Let me know in the comments.

A MONEY PODCAST FOR NON-MONEY NERDS
If you’ve ever felt like money terms go completely over your head, check out my new podcast discovery: Moneysplained. It’s hosted by Ally-Jane, who’s a millennial trying to figure out her money, so she asks experts the same questions that you’re probably wondering about, too. Like, what do I do once I get my first job? So if you’re tired of financial information that explain things in overcomplicated terms, then this is worth a listen.

HOW TO PICK YOUR LIFE PARTNER
I’m a big fan of the website “Wait But Why.” Tim writes these super long-form articles (like me, but times 100) on topics that really make you think. I love this one about how to pick a life partner, because as he points out, we don’t think nearly enough about how to choose our life partners. Instead, we think it's more romantic to leave it up to chance. In what kind of warped world should we leave any forever-decision up to chance? As he says, “people tend to be bad at knowing what they want from a relationship...”

LIKE A SOAP OPERA, BUT FOR LITERARY FOLKS
I found out Elena Ferrante is writing again! She wrote the series “My Brilliant Friend,” which I devoured a few summers ago. Her books are like soap operas, except written perfectly, and when the last book ended I got pretty sad it was over. Do you ever have that feeling where you don’t want a book to end? Anyway, if you’re looking to get lost in a world of love and friendship post-war Italy, then check this out.

HOW I GOT 2-DAY FREE SHIPPING
I’m traveling in a few weeks, and I just got saved by ShopRunner. I was able to buy some sweatpants for the plane ride with 2-day shipping, because it’s a free benefit I get from my American Express card. If I wasn’t enrolled in ShopRunner, it means the sweatpants would have arrived while I was already on vacation, which is no bueno. If you’re an American Express card holder, and have a few minutes, it’s worth enrolling. See which stores you can use ShopRunner here.

MY FAVORITE SALES AND DEALS
Acne Canada scarves never go on sale. Like, ever. Until I found this for 30% off. Trigger pulled. But you know, I put it on my Pinterest wishlist first. Gotta abide by the shopping system to avoid impulse purchases!

Reed Krakow isn’t a household name, but he makes a great shoe. I had a pair of lizard oxfords a while back that were impeccably made. I just found these knee high boots in size 37 for $50, which are a total steal. If you’re in the market for a classic boot, and these are your size, they would be a good buy.

I'm going to check out the Louis Vuitton exhibit this weekend, so if we aren't friends on Instagram yet, add me so you can follow along in the stories.

Have an amazing weekend!

My DIY NYC Rental Kitchen Makeover–No Paint, No Reno

DIY Rental Kitchen Makeover in NYC

I never thought there was anything “wrong” or “ugly” about our kitchen. But as I scrolled through countless aspirational home makeovers where everything was gut-renovated, styled by a fancy designer, and set free by limitless budgets, I felt both inspired and left out: What about the renters? The brand-new custom cabinets I saw were close […]

What Day Is It? Life and Money During a Pandemic

Life and Money in NYC During a Pandemic

On March 4th, my husband and I had an eerie feeling we should do a grocery shop. The store was bustling as usual, but I chuckled at the sight of an empty toilet paper shelf. In a health crisis, of all things to hoard–toilet paper, really? I snapped a pic, and posted it to my […]

My Weekend Money Diary #17: Activate Beast-Mode Planning

Inspired by the Man Repeller and Refinery29 money diaries, I thought it’d be fun to see what happens when I track my spending for a weekend. Although I’m conscious about my overall spending, I’m at a point where I don’t feel the need to review purchases line by line. But that doesn’t mean there’s no room […]

Ask Luxe: “Should I Buy ETFs or Mutual Funds?”

Ask Luxe: Should I Buy ETFs or Mutual Funds?

The best way to understand anything that seems complicated is to just try it yourself. I learned how to invest by basically clicking on a bunch of buttons, and I didn’t fully grasp how an ETF works until I attempted to buy one myself. And the second best way? Seeing what someone else did in […]

Quality Clothes: How to Buy Better Sweaters + Make the Most of Your Money

How to Buy High-Quality Sweaters

A few Fridays ago, to cap off a long work week, I went to check out the new Nordstrom. While the price points don’t faze me, I left the store feeling like most of what I’d seen was overpriced. Like the $785 sweater I had tried on which had already sprouted a hole. Or the […]

Six Game-Changing Money Mindsets for 2020

Money Mindsets That Will Change Your Life

As an antidote to my last consumerist post, today I’m back to basics with thoughts and feelings. And what’s more basic than the thoughts that pop into your head?  Specifically, how you think about money. Because personal finance is never just about doing math or following the right steps or developing enough willpower. I don’t know […]

The Logistics of Sharing Finances: How We Created an Argument-Free Money System

The Logistics of Sharing Finances: How We Created an Argument-Free Money System

Growing up, my parent’s money system was simple. They never spent any money, so what was there to argue about? Without a clear model to follow, when it came time to share finances with my husband, it meant I could easily adopt my own system based on our own values. But first, the perennial question: […]
