Tip of the week from Marcus: "Lots of you probably know this already, but on Windows Ctrl + any arrow key moves your text cursor by word instead of by letter. And Shift + any arrow key selects text by letter, instead of having to click and drag! (You can combine them too.)"

Faculty of IT Study Sessions

IT labs and study spaces full? Need to decompress or work in a quiet space?

The Faculty of IT has you covered. They've booked out large rooms in the LTB every week, and are providing snacks and refreshments. So bring your friends along and get productive!

Location: Room 101, Learning and Teaching Building
Date: 17th and 23rd October, 5pm-9pm

In addition to the study sessions provided for weeks 10-12, MAC and diversIT have managed to book out rooms in the LTB for the entire week for SWOTVAC!

To attend one of these sessions, simply rock up to one of the venues at any time of the day.

So come along to these study sessions as we will be providing snacks and light refreshment throughout the entire day :)

Accenture Hackathon: Banking Revolution

Banking is currently one of the most innovative industries in technology and we want to see how YOU can use your skills to explore bringing further innovation to this exciting industry! People use their bank several times a day, they enable us to make some of the biggest and smallest decisions in our lives. 

The Banking Revolution refers to areas of transformation that could drastically change the way a bank operates internally for its employees or externally for its consumers. Some examples of these innovations include blockchain, FinTech, revolutionising banking apps, client interaction and customer service improvements. 

Over 24 hours your challenge is to build a working prototype for the banking industry. What you choose to do, is up to you! The hackathon will conclude with teams presenting their ideas, followed by a cocktail-style celebration.

IT Intern at Rail Projects Victoria

RPV’s Finance and Administration team are looking to have two IT Interns join them.

During your time with RPV you will be working alongside an Information Systems Manager and a team of Information Technology professionals.

You will be getting involved in a wide range of IT activities including working with our project’s IT specialists, including our experts in SharePoint, Business Intelligence and Information Exchange. You’ll also assist with the development of IT inactivates across the broad spectrum of areas to develop your industry knowledge.

You will have the opportunity to deliver your own IT projects and improve process and systems where possible.

Note: This is a 6 months full time paid placement IBL program for students who have completed at least half of their qualification.

Knowledge/skills required
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
An interest in working with people and building positive work relationships.
Can do attitude.
Genuine interest in kick starting an IT career.

Final Year Software Developer

Xrosswork is seeking a Software Developer that is preferably in their final year or have recently graduated.

You will have dabbled in both development and testing with a passion for UI/UX. Within the role, you will perform software development in Python, Django or similar, develop tools and automation processes to aid the software team and work closely with other developers, UX designers, business and systems analysts.

Junior React Native Software Developer

We are looking for a React Native developer interested in building performant mobile apps on both the iOS and Android platforms. You will be responsible for architecting and building these applications, as well as coordinating with the teams responsible for other layers of the product infrastructure. Building a product is a highly collaborative effort, and as such, a strong team player with a commitment to perfection is required.

We have an existing product that you'll be introduced to and have the opportunity to work on building great new functionality. Some prior React Native experience is required and will be validated, however limited experience is acceptable. API's are at the core of our product and experience with API's will set your application apart.

Requirement: Currently studying a Technology related degree and have suitable Australian working rights
