Join the SCNA Board


This is an exciting time for Southern Crossing, with lots of change in the near and far future. The development of Korpine, expansion of the Box Factory, saving the COID land, the expansion of Aune Street by Crux are a few of them. You can learn what is happening in YOUR neighborhood by being on the Board of the Southern Crossing Neighborhood Association. You can also impact growth and development by being involved, instead of just reacting to the changes happening in Bend.

Board meetings are usually held monthly via Zoom. You can check out the next one on Tuesday September 13 at 5pm to see what it's like (request meeting link). There is more information on the SCNA board here, including SCNA bylaws, and if you have questions please email hello@bendscna.org or fill out our contact form.

We have two general board member positions open. One is for a full two year term beginning January 1. The other is for the remainder of a term that runs through the end of next year, which can be a good way to try it out with a shorter commitment. Both positions can of course run for reelection at the end of the first term. The position of Secretary is also open, with a two year term that begins January 1.

Board members are elected via ballot at the Annual Membership Meeting, which will be held Thursday October 20th, 5:30 - 7pm via Zoom. (Meeting details will be sent in a future email.) You can submit a Board Member Interest Form or email hello@bendscna.org any time before then, or self nominate yourself at that meeting. You must be present at the meeting, and be willing to share a bit about your background and experience.
 

Neighborhood Leadership Alliance


Southern Crossing is one of 13 neighborhood associations recognized by the City of Bend. The neighborhood associations meet frequently throughout the year, to talk about issues of citywide concern. Southern Crossing is seeking someone to represent our neighborhood association in the Neighborhood Leadership Alliance (NLA), an advisory committee to the City Council. Read more about the NLA on their web page. To apply, fill out the online application form here. The applications will be shared with the board for consideration, and they will make a recommendation to the Mayor and City Council. In Southern Crossing, the NLA representative is also a member of the Board.
City Considers Short Term Rental Changes

The City of Bend is proposing amendments to Bend Development Code regarding Short Term Rentals (STR). The amendments would increase the separation distance from 250 feet to 500 feet between STR properties in residential zones outside of the Old Mill District for any new STRs. An exemption would also be added to allow an owner to enter into a long-term lease of 12 months or greater without losing their STR permit. The Planning Commission and City Council are holding a series of meetings to consider these changes.

A Planning Commission hearing will be held on Monday September 12 at 5:30pm. The meeting will be conducted in person in City Hall Council Chambers at 710 NW Wall Street and virtually. Virtual attendance instructions are at the top of the agenda on the Planning Commission web page, note that you must register ahead of time to speak.

City Candidate Forum

The Bend Chamber of Commerce is hosting a candidate forum for this year's City Council and Mayor candidates. The forum is on Monday September 19, 5-7:30pm at the Open Space Event Studios. For more information and to register, visit the Bend Chamber event page.

Next SCNA Board Meeting
Tuesday September 13, 5-7 pm

The meeting will begin with a presentation by Killian Pacific on their recently approved large mixed-use development at the Box Factory. There will also be a City representative looking for feedback on their preliminary design for a multi-use path on the Woodriver Drive hill.

All neighbors in Southern Crossing NA are welcome to attend board meetings. Currently, all meetings are being held via Zoom. Please email register@bendscna.org by noon on the day before the meeting to request a Zoom invitation.

If you would like to request time on the agenda to address the board, please email chair@bendscna.org at least 2 days prior to the meeting.


Annual SCNA General Membership Meeting
Thursday October 20, 5:30-7 pm

Based on feedback from our recent survey, the general meeting will once again be held via Zoom rather than in-person. Details will be announced in a future newsletter. All Southern Crossing members are invited.
