Message from the Principal

Dear parents and caregivers,

Last day of term always incorporates celebratory assemblies and they are a real feature of the Island School experience. The students take time to share their accomplishments and celebrate their personal journeys. The end of Term 1 also coincides with our Christmas culture celebration and incorporates lots of festive traditions.

The occasion is filled with laughter and applause and provides a wonderful opportunity to enjoy each other's company and feel the warmth of our special Island School spirit.

Today’s assembly made it abundantly clear that our students have seized every opportunity that our new campus has presented. Their commitment to the Diwali celebrations, Quest Week and special initiatives such as last Friday’s Connected Communities event have been driven by our students and for this reason they have all been overwhelmingly successful.

At the assembly we also acknowledged the exemplary service of Ms Pippa Peters, Deputy Head of Senior school (and former Nansen Senior Head of House). Ms Peters is returning to Australia and she will be sorely missed by students, staff and parents alike.

As we pause for a well earned break I would like to thank all parents for their continued support of Island School. My colleagues and I are very grateful for your patience and understanding as we settle into Borrett Road.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah

Message from the Middle Phase

Congratulations to all the Merit winners this  week

Mark Jobling, Vice Principal Middle Phase

Message from the Senior Phase

Term one is always very busy for Senior Phase students. Practice iGCSE Exams and option choices for Year 11, the start of IBDP or IBCP for Year 12 and a busy period of IAs, BTEC coursework and higher education applications for Year 13. Ms Peters and I have been extremely proud that alongside this busy academic work, the Senior Phase has continued to be leaders in the school and has set such a positive example to other students. Senior Phase students’ commitment to life inside and outside the classroom is awe-inspiring. Many are ready for a holiday, and I wish the Senior Phase a restful break and a Merry Christmas to those celebrating.

This week was sad for the Senior Phase as we bid farewell to Ms Peters. Ms Peters is leaving Island School following over ten years of distinguished service to the school, during which time she has held the role of Teacher of Philosophy and TOK, Head of Nansen House and Deputy Head of the Senior Phase. So many Islanders have benefited from her outstanding teaching, expert guidance and support. The Senior Phase and Island School sends our best wishes to Ms Peters and her family as they return to Sydney.

The Senior Phase Quiz

The Senior Phase Quiz is an annual tradition at the end of term 1. Teams from across the houses battled it out to test their knowledge of the events of 2022 and Christmas trivia. In the end, Einstein and Rutherford were crowned joint winners.

ISPTA Supports Connected Communities

Following on from the last academic year, ISPTA continued its support of the Connected Communities student initiative.

Parent volunteers provided invaluable support to students who welcomed neighbours of former Shatin campuses to Borrett Road last Friday afternoon. Student performances, game stalls and craft demonstration activities led by PTA Committee Member Rosanna Nongdhar kept guests entertained. The PTA also supported the students in giving gifts which reminded our former neighbours of their connection with the school and our students.
