Dear parents and caregivers,
Island School is values driven and that was clearly evident today as we celebrated the Lunar New Year and welcomed parents onto campus for our Open Day.
Shortly after we return from Lunar break, we will conduct our annual Award ceremonies which celebrate achievement and ask students to reset their goals for the second half of our school year.
The purpose of these events is to acknowledge personal achievement at many levels. Awards are presented for:
· Principal’s medals for outstanding academic achievement
· Islander awards for students who engage fully in school life
· Spirit awards to students who embody the school values
· Special awards in Sporting and cultural achievements
· Commitment to community service
At the events students will be reminded that not everyone can be the best but that everyone can do their best.
Parents of recipients will be personally invited to attend if their young person is receiving an award; however all parents are welcome to join in these important celebrations. The date for this years ceremony are as follows: 23 Feb 2023.
Please note the date of the next coffee morning.

Year 7-8: Developing collaboration & communication competencies
Our Thrive sessions for Year 7 and 8 over the last two weeks have provided an opportunity for students to explicitly develop their collaboration and communication competencies. We have had workshops from Russel Dunscombe from Perspection Counselling. A former Teacher and Vice Principal, Russel is now a psychotherapist and shared his insights on how we can evaluate our personal strengths and apply these in social situations. This has been connected to the TFL conversations that have taken place, with students reflecting on their progress and development as young people, as well as students.
