Join us for a research symposium that will focus on navigating the world of international collaborations.
Navigating International Research Opportunities in Times of Global Change
Thursday, May 2, 2019
8:15 AM - 5:30 PM
Maple Leaf Room, Lister Centre, University of Alberta
In today’s globally connected world, Canadian research universities collaborate with many international public, private and non-profit entities, as well as individual researchers around the world. These collaborations offer a wide range of opportunities to address national and global social, economic and environmental challenges, leverage resources, engage with investment and policy makers, and enables students, post-doctoral fellows and researchers to immerse themselves in the global market place of ideas and practice. However, at the same time, such collaborations can involve potential risks that must be understood and managed.
This symposium will provide a forum for researchers to learn from thought leaders in this area and discuss some potential risks, such as cyber security, dual use technology, as well as ethics, knowledge translation and intellectual property protection in different cultural and legal contexts.
