The Diversity in Diplomacy (DD) series is jointly organized by the University of Alberta’s Intersections of Gender Signature Area (IG), the Peter Lougheed Leadership College (PLLC), and University of Alberta International (UAI). In moderated online conversations, Canadian and foreign ambassadors, high commissioners, and consuls general are invited to reflect on their practice of foreign policy and diplomacy with a view on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in the diplomatic service.

The DD series explores diplomatic service through the lens of intersectionality, encourages students from diverse backgrounds to consider diplomatic careers, and leads national and international conversations on the role of EDI in improving foreign policy outcomes.

In this inaugural lecture in the DD series, US Consul General in Calgary Lucia C. Piazza shares her experiences in working around the globe as an out LGBT+ diplomat.

The series is open to interested students, faculty, and the public.
