VFW January News

Post News by Commander Perry Taylor
In December, at our District meeting, we presented our Youth Essay, Patriots Pen, and Voice of Democracy awards.  Teresa Coe did a great job as District Scholarship chairman on the presentations. Bill Thiel was present to accept Teacher of the Year and is in the running for Department Teacher of the Year. Our District Voice of Democracy winner is headed to Mid-Winter and hopefully move on to National level.

We brought smiles and supported our veterans and families through the holidays. The Senior Luncheon had a great turnout and thanks to Mark Johnson for cooking and the North Whidbey Lions for assisting us. Thanks to Jim Meany, Mark Johnson and his boys, Christmas baskets were distributed to needy families. Thanks to the canteen and volunteers for a night full of fun at our post Christmas party. The Whidbey Cruisers donated a beautiful Christmas tree complete with nostalgic decorations: Match Box cars and cash in the ornaments. The tree was donated to a single,100% disabled, veteran mother of seven.

We are traveling over the river and through the woods to Mid-Winter Conference January 11th-12th in Yakima.  Keep up the good work supporting our veterans into the New Year!

Everyone is invited to attend, and to enter the competition. Got a family recipe that you think is the best chili EVER? Cook it up and bring it down for others to enjoy. Only $7 to enter your chili and $7 to eat. Cheese, onions, cornbread, and crackers provided. All proceeds will go into our general fund so we can continue to help our fellow veterans, and their families in time of need. Let's make this the best competition ever! I look forward to seeing everyone there.
