Pictured above: After earning 1 of 11 All State Post recognition out of 108 possible in Dept. of Washington this year, official congratulations to Commander Perry Taylor on achieving All American Post Commander at National Convention held in Kansas City, MO July 21-25 presented by VFW National Commander-in-Chief Keith Harmon. Your dedication to membership, veterans, and their families has brought us to top honors. Our last recipient was Commander Fred McDaniel in 1992!

Our Auxiliary 7392 President and District 15 President 2017-2018, Teresa Coe, was recognized as Post and District President of the Year at Department Convention Banquet held June 23 at Kitsap Conference Center. She received her award from National President, Dee Guillory and Dept. of Washington President, Laurie Lukas. Congratulations to all! Well done!

Commander's Corner

We had many events in August and more to come in September. Thanks to the post and auxiliary, we had another successful National Night Out, connecting our community with lots of information on our organization and programs. Our post picnic and Family Freedom Festival went well with great food, music, and fun. Our School of Instruction in Ritzville was informative and we learned of new ways to make our post run smoothly.

This month brings Sept. 11th - Patriot Day with special Buddy Poppies available all day on post, Youth Programs and First Responder entries distribution, and our post POW/MIA presentation Sept 21 (facebook details forthcoming). District meeting is at our post, next Sunday, Sept 9th with lunch at 11:30 am. Come meet district post and auxiliary members. Due to Labor Day, our next post meeting will be Sept. 10th at 6:30 pm. Come join us at our booth at Hydros for Heroes the 15th and 16th. A Day to Change Direction suicide awareness info will be available at our booth on Sept 15. The Autumn Leaf Festival is Sept. 29th, in Leavenworth with the VFW leading the parade. This is another opportunity to meet up with members from all over the state. Thank you for all your efforts in making this an All American post! -Perry Taylor, Commander

Veteran Service Officer

VFW Service Officers are trained experts, helping veterans develop their case with ease by reviewing and applying current law, pertinent legislation, regulations and medical histories. As skilled professionals, we assist in filing for disability compensation, rehabilitation and education programs, pension and death benefits, and employment and training programs. Furthermore, we won’t hesitate to request hearings before the VA and the Board of Veterans Appeals to present oral arguments when needed. VFW Service Officers are with America's veterans every step of the way once they're ready to file a claim. This is a service the VFW is proud to offer--free of charge--to anyone seeking assistance with the claims process.

Our post service officer, Michael Leighner, typically holds office hours Saturday mornings or by appointment. Due to an upcoming surgery, he may need to meet with you at his home. Give him a call 425 354 8883 to schedule or if you need anything.

DAV is still seeking volunteer van drivers. Pretty easy gig transporting Veterans to/from their appointments in Seattle. Drivers get a quick class in Seattle & background check. To sign up or learn more, contact Seattle DAV coordinator (206) 764-2564
