Awards

Essex Rising was recently honored with awards in recognition of our impact in promoting democratic values in the wake of #45's election. On May 12th, Essex Rising was one of two honorees at the West Orange Democratic Committee "Spring-to-it Brunch",  at Essex House. Essex Rising co-founder Elizabeth Redwine, accepting the award from Sal M. Anderton, underscored Essex Rising's advocacy of a more progressive direction for the party. Essex County Committee's Chairman LeRoy J. Jones Jr. graciously complimented Essex Rising in his inspiring address. Former West Orange Mayor Assemblyman John F. McKeon — contemplating a challenge to Rodney Freylinghusen — was among several leading Democrat officeholders present. On Sunday June 11th, at the Pride March of the West Orange Rainbow Coalition, Essex Rising was honored to receive their Ally Award for standing with the LGBTQ+ community. West Orange Mayor Parisi sported a Rainbow shirt during this event.

What's coming up?

He is now the only candidate fully behind Medicare-for-All in NJ and presented strong economic justifications. He also explained why he believes his role outside the two big parties is vital for NJ. The Senate is poised to vote on the AHCA, likely within the next 2-3 weeks. Please call our senators' offices to ask they they do everything in their power to grind ALL Senate business to a halt until the AHCA bill receives a full public debate. Your call is likely to be answered, whichever of our representatives you are motivated to call: it is reported that switchboard volume has declined to pre-Trump election levels. Now is the time to Pump-Up-the-Volume! Sometimes it might seem

Menendez: 202-224-4744
Booker: 973-639-8700

Put our senators' numbers and your congressman's number on speed-dial so you can call regularly! It might not seem like it makes much difference, but it is one of the most effective actions you can take without actually going to the MoC's office.

Support equal rights for your LGBTQ+ friends and family.

Call, or leave a voicemail for, your senators (above) and/or Congressman.
Script: Hi. I’m from _ZIP_ calling to express my support for equal rights for the LGBTQ community. My (share who you know is gay) is gay/trans/queer, and I want her/him/them to have the same access to housing and employment that I do. Can you tell me if _NAME_ plans to support The Equality Act of 2017? (Senate: S.1006 / House: H.R. 2282)

Note: If you are LGBTQIA+, please edit the script accordingly. We deserve equal rights.

Advocate for integrity from the highest office in the US.

Call: All three MoCs or leave message.
Here's a Script you might like to use:
"Hi. I’m from _ZIP_ and am concerned that our president asked the FBI Director for 'loyalty' and implied that he should stop the investigation of Michael Flynn. Is _NAME_ concerned about this? I expect integrity from our leaders. Could you please tell me what s/he is doing about this lack of integrity? (pause) Thank you.
