PHILADELPHIA, PA – U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Bartos outlined the necessary course of action amidst the crisis in Ukraine escalated by Joe Biden's weakness on the global stage. The United States can implement all of the following actions without committing a single American servicemember to the region.
1. Meet Ukraine's request for weapons from the U.S.
- Including anti-tank, anti-ship, anti-drone, and anti-aircraft weapons.
2. Disconnect Russia from the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) system.
- Cutting Russia off from the SWIFT system is the only sanction with severe enough economic consequences to reverse Putin's aggression.
3. Lead a global boycott if Russia blockades Ukraine's ports of entry.
- If Russia takes this action, Putin needs to know that Russian ships will be forbidden from anchoring anywhere in the free world.
4. Implement sanctions to make Russia's ability to sell oil and gas impossible.
- Here in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, we are sitting on an abundance of natural gas that can power the U.S. and the world. Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) shipments from our Commonwealth and other states to European allies who rely on Russian oil and gas should begin immediately.
In addition, Bartos offered the following comment:
"Joe Biden's appeasement of Russia has not been effective. The United States must take quick, decisive action to stop Putin's aggression before it is too late," said Bartos. "Make no mistake, Putin's aggression is the first step to destabilize the global order that the United States has led since the end of World War II. History has shown us that failing to stop thugs like Putin has catastrophic consequences for the world."
