Chapters Newsletter

Hello Chapter Leaders,

There are a few news items we’d like you to be aware of:

Last month we had a Chapter Leaders hangout with several of the leaders of ACM SIGGRAPH following the August conference. Thanks again to our special guests for sharing their opportunities for the chapter leaders. If you were not able to attend, we want to make sure you have access to all the information that was shared. Here is a recording of the Zoom session that you can review. You can also learn more about the speakers below.

Soon Ki Jung is the Chair of SIGGRAPH Asia 2022 in Daegu, South Korea. This conference will be happening in-person and online. Because our meeting was at 3AM in Soon Ki’s time zone, he pre-recorded a video welcome for chapters that you can watch in the Zoom recording. If you would like to ask Soon Ki any questions about the conference, you can email him at soonki.jung@siggraph.org.

Juan Miguel de Joya is the Chair of the ACM SIGGRAPH Practitioner Career Development Committee. Juan is looking to collaborate with chapter leaders and chapter event presenters on promoting their events to the worldwide ACM SIGGRAPH community and more. For more information, you can contact Juan at juandejoya@gmail.com.

Jonali Bhattacharyya is the Chair of the ACM SIGGRAPH Lifelong Learning Committee. Jonali is also looking to collaborate with chapter leaders and chapter subject experts on contributing to the brand new SIGGRAPH University platform, which is intended to help distribute diverse computer graphics knowledge for free. If you’d like to chat with Jonali, you can reach her at lifelong-learning-chair@acmsiggraph.org.

Marina Antunes and Sly Provencher from the Vancouver Chapter gave a presentation about the Spark Animation Festival and specifically how other chapters can participate in sharing the animation festival with their local communities. For more information, please email them at marina@sparkcg.ca & sly@sparkcg.ca.

Distinguished Speakers Program

Many of you are familiar with the ACM “Distinguished Speakers Program” which helps to cover travel costs for speakers at chapter events.
However, the speaker needs to be listed in the database, and currently there are very few graphics experts in the database.
We would like to improve this!
Please contribute names of speakers your chapter has hosted to this spreadsheet so that we can reward them for their service by raising their profile and giving them an opportunity to speak in other places!

As always, please reach out to the Chapters Committee by Slack or email if you need information, help, or have any other big ideas!

Cheers,

AJ Christensen
