Windsong Heights School has been selected by Elections Canada as the site for polling stations for the upcoming federal election.  We anticipate traffic will be high on election day and would ask your help to spread the word.  We encourage all students, other than those who take the school bus, to walk or bike to school on Monday, Oct 21.  If at all possible, please do not drive to Windsong on election day.  As well, if you are coming to vote, please walk.  If you would encourage your neighbours to walk as well that would be appreciated.  Parking around Windsong Heights is a challenge at the best of times, so your assistance may prevent frustration and congestion as well as be safer for our students.  As always, we very much appreciate your support.

Our school year is well on its way here at Windsong Heights School (WHS). Start up has been smooth and settled and our students seem engaged, with learning at the root of all that we do. Teacher-student relationship is a key in overall student engagement and learning, and it is apparent that these bonds are developing and beginning to shine. Please ask your learner what they enjoyed about their day at WHS and what they are wondering about. We challenge our students to explore their wonderings and hopefully they are sharing their findings and expertise at home.

Education is a family-school responsibility and one that blossoms from close and timely communication. Hopefully parents and families have been able to communicate with teachers regarding their child's learning. Possibly a chat at the Pancake Breakfast or during the Open House took place. Or through class emails and communications that have come home from your child's teacher. Hopefully you have been able to collaborate. Do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher with any questions or concerns. Communication is key to learning within our Pack and "We Are One!"

WHS truly is a community school as we only have two buses this year for a school that is just under 1000 students. Our school grounds are an active spot in the mornings and after school with students coming and going on scooters, skateboards and bikes. All students have been reminded of overall school and playground expectations in an effort for everyone to be safe while at WHS. Many parents and family members pick up and drop off and it is always nice to see so many each and every day.

Thank you to our families for the ongoing support and partnership.

Juno Winner Norman Foote is inviting singers (K-4) from Windsong school to sing at the Bert Church Theatre on October 26th for his Halloween Howl concert. Any students wishing to participate need to be at Bert Church Theatre at 12:15pm to rehearse with Norman Foote. The show starts at 2pm. Now that kids are back in the classroom, their risk of getting sick will increase significantly. We ask that you please allow your child(ren) to stay home and take the time they need to get well before they return to school.  It is important to call the absence line at 403-945-4149, press 2, and let us know that your child(ren) will be staying home.

Windsong will be hosting our annual Scholastic Bookfair from October 22nd to the 25th. Did you know that we get up to 70% of what we sell back in Scholastic products? This is an easy way to celebrate your love of reading AND help get free books for our Learning Commons and classroom libraries. The Bookfair will be open during Parent/Teacher/Student conferences for your shopping convenience.

Are you looking for an enriching volunteer opportunity at our amazing school? Do you love reading with children?  Do you have one free morning or afternoon each week to come to our school?  If so, Mrs. Bang would love to talk with you to explore the Precision Reading Program at Windsong Heights School.  This program is designed to help students improve reading fluency, sight words and boost their overall confidence. Specific training is provided!

If you are interested, please contact Janet Bang, our school's Literacy Support teacher at: jbang@rockyview.ab.ca for further information. Thanks!

Congratulations to the Windsong Grade 7/8 soccer team!

The team worked very hard and battled back, after the first loss, to win their second game. They worked as a team and represented Windsong well. The coaches are proud at your perseverance when you were under pressure. You should be proud of how well you played and how hard you practiced in order to compete.

Thank you for demonstrating what it means to be a Windsong Wolf.
Congratulations to the Windsong Heights Grade 6 soccer team!

The team represented as ambassadors for Windsong Heights and had a lot of fun doing so.

Grade 6 Soccer is for everybody, whether you have been playing for years or have never played before.  Everyone played extremely hard and tried their best, which lead to a win and a loss.  We are extremely proud of them!

Students and parents are reminded to please label your school items and clothing.  It is much easier to return lost items when they are labeled.
Easton (Gr 6) and Noah (Gr 7) took it upon themselves to help raise money for the Terry Fox foundation.  Easton and Noah sold enough lemonade to raise $200.  We are very proud of them! Way to go wolves!
ATTENTION!

On the west side of our school near our drop and go area we have an accessible parking spot. It’s a lot more than an empty space. For people with disabilities, an accessible parking space means full participation in the community. It is a necessity - not a privilege for those with disabilities.  Thank you for being courteous and leaving accessible space for those who truly need it – even for quick drop offs or pick ups.

Handicap Parking Permit holders are more than welcome to park in the staff parking lot in one of our designated stalls. These stalls are for ANYONE possessing a Handicap Permit.  If you DO NOT have a permit, please DO NOT park in any of our handicap parking stalls or areas that are designated as Handicap Parking.
