Port Washington State Bank Sponsors 21st Annual Mel's Pig Roast
Mel’s Charities Inc. recently announced a three-year commitment from Port Washington State Bank to serve as presenting sponsor for Mel's Pig Roast. The signature fundraising event is in its 21st year and continues to serve as the foundation of the organization. The event takes place on Sunday, September 29. Through events like Mel’s Pig Roast, the nonprofit raises thousands of dollars that will be used to provide grants in the areas of Special Needs, Memorial Scholarships and Human Services in Ozaukee County. More than $1,000,000 has been given back to the community since the organization’s founding almost 20 years ago.
Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Officer James Schowalter shared the reason behind the long-term commitment. “When we look for ways to give back in Ozaukee County, we admire charities who build connections among families and members of the community. It's more difficult to build a plan for growth when you don't know what to expect year-to-year from supporters. Just as we've been in Ozaukee County for 120 years and counting, we wanted Mel's Charities to know that we'll be here to support their mission."
Tom Stanton, founder and Executive Director of Mel's Charities, commented on the bank's continued partnership. "Port Washington State Bank's commitment goes beyond a signed check. Their people willingly volunteer to help make events like the Pig Roast so incredible. And it doesn't stop there. They've made it possible for us to fundraise at festivals and events, including their own customer appreciation event. Every little bit helps and allows us to tell our story."
Tickets are on sale now through Friday, September 26 at any PWSB branch, and more information on the event can be found by visiting melscharities.org.

You Can’t Make This Stuff Up, Mel's Stories
Running (and walking) into another Great Time for Great Causes
As we get closer to our FUN Run/Walk and Mel’s Pig Roast I’m constantly reminded why I’m so grateful to live in Ozaukee County. I wish everyone could listen to our voicemails and read our texts and emails.
Here are just a few examples:
“I want to volunteer and be part of Mel’s Dysfunctional Family.”
“Our business would like to financially support and donate raffle/silent auction items.”
“What is the best way to join the 300 FUN(d)?”
“Hope you don’t mind, but I hand made some items for you.”
“We look forward to this weekend every year.”
I have to stress that these are only a few of the unsolicited messages we receive. In today’s world, when individuals and businesses are solicited by so many worthwhile causes, it’s amazing to see so many people reaching out to support us on so many levels.
When we ask people why they support Mel’s Charities, this is what we hear the most:
“We love that 100% of proceeds from your signature events are donated back to such worthy causes in Ozaukee County.”
“Your events provide the opportunity for all walks of life to be involved.”
“Your group is everywhere and always having so much fun!”
I look forward to seeing you at the FUN Run/Walk Saturday, September 28, and our 21st annual Pig Roast on Sunday, September 29. If you have registered for the Run/Walk and purchased your Pig Roast tickets…THANK YOU! We invite you to bring your friends and family, especially those who haven’t attended a Mel’s event. We hope you’ll continue to spread the word, because the more who attend our Great Times for Great Causes, the more lives we can impact in Ozaukee County!

Ross Shares His Thoughts Round Up For Mel's Charities
It is generous that we have so many places that are asking their customer to Round Up for Mel's Charities. We are happy we have so many outstanding community members that believe in our mission.
The first Round Up this year was Wayne's Drive-in. This is the second year and it keeps growing every year. Other local businesses that started Rounding Up for Mel’s this year include Mequon Pizza Company, Sports Clips and Olsen’s Piggly Wiggly.
As my position as a Board Member and Ambassador, I think rounding up is awesome! It shows how much our community cares and makes Ozaukee County a better place.
