New GIM Report: COVID-19, Latino Working-Age Adults and Citizenship

David Hayes-Bautista, MDIn this report, GIM's Dr. David E. Hayes-Bautista and colleagues Dr. Paul Hsu and Giselle D. Hernandez found that non-citizen Latino workers in California are among the most vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic because of their concentration in essential employment, including the state’s agricultural industry that generates $50 billion per year.

Also, be sure to check out Dr. Hayes-Bautista's new podcast, Gente and Health, produced by the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture (CESLAC) at UCLA, which aims to unearth the voices of gente and health by highlighting Latino narratives and discussing the situation of Latinos in California.

GIM in the Media
Joanne Elmore, MDLos Angeles Times, Washington PostDeadline, and Newsweek reported on research led by GIM's Dr. Joann Elmore published in Journal of Medical Internet Research.  The article, "Excess Patient Visits for Cough and Pulmonary Disease at a Large US Health System in the Months Prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic: Time-Series Analysis," suggests that COVID-19 may have been circulating in the area months before the first definitive cases in the U.S. were identified.
