Featured Dog:

Nola

Nola is a gorgeous 13 month old Shepherd mix. She tends to be a bit nervous around new people and takes a bit to warm up to them. Once she does she’s extremely sweet and loving. She will need training to work on basic commands and leash walking.

Nola is a very energetic dog. She will need an active owner who would be able to provide her with the exercise she needs. A fenced yard or area to safely run and play would be needed. Nola would also make a great running or hiking partner. Because of her exuberance, older children would be best for her. Nola has played with other dogs since she’s been here with us and has done well.

If you are interested in giving this sweetheart the life she deserves, please fill out our online application or stop in on Saturdays 12-3 pm.

Featured Cat:

Vera
Vera is about a year and a half old domestic short haired female with tuxedo markings. She was surrendered to the shelter as a stray in April of 2021. Vera is a sweet girl but quite shy and timid. She has shown that she will trust and warm up to volunteers who spend extra time with her. Although shy, she is not aggressive and does show that she wants to give and receive love and affection but needs that special someone to take their time with her and work with her on her terms.

Vera needs a special person or family that will have the patience to give her the space she needs, as well as slowly and patiently work with her to earn her trust and affection. She lives with other cats at the shelter but may do better in a one-animal home only with one-on-one attention from her family.

Love in Action:
Adopting a Shelter Pet
Sandy  joins two other older kitties and a very respectful big doggy in her new home.

It looks like Spunky found true love.
Petey and Frisky were adopted by the same family
who adopted Rocky in November.

Our odd couple Max and Ollie got to go to a new home together.

And Suzy finally found her people.

Cleopatra leaves her kennel at PetSmart for life in a home.

This lady brought Parker home to be her valentine.

Ellie poses on her matching blanket and Magic (now Milo) checks out the fish in their new home. They are mother and son so their adopter felt that she should take home both cats even though she really only came in for one.

Ronin (black) and Teddy got adopted together.

Smokey goes home to be loved by this couple.

Nina found her forever family with these gentlemen.

Pretty little Marissa is ready to head out with this adoptive family.

And Ollie starts a new life with these ladies.

Aurora was still recovering from surgery but this couple didn't want to wait a minute longer to bring her home with them.

Now Manny (right) really has something to smile about as he heads home to live with this crew.

Events and Visits

Valentine's Day Goodies
Get your Valentine-themed catnip toys from LHS. These catnip hearts are filled with 100% organic catnip only, no fillers. Price is $3 each or 2 for $5.

Squeaker demonstrates the correct use of the catnip toy. He was adopted from LHS by volunteer Lynn Lamattina, who made and donated the catnip hearts as well as the face masks.
We have a new selection of cotton masks in various designs. They are 100%  prewashed/ preshrunk. Each mask is sized to fit YOU with adjustable ear loops and self-adhesive nose strips! The CDC recommends wearing cloth masks over surgical masks for maximum protection.  These masks are easily washed, should be hung to dry and are ecologically friendly because they can be worn over & over, again.        $6 each or 2/$10

We are also putting the White Green Cloths on sale for $5 each instead of $6 ($16 for 4).

All available in the Cat's Meow Boutique inside the LHS Adoption Center, Saturdays 12 - 3.

Cheering for Our Dog Walk Heroes
This group of LHS volunteers showed up at Dods Hall this past Friday evening to cheer on the Fredonia State Women's Basketball team at their game against the Buffalo State Bengals. We were grateful for the Blue Devils' amazing help at a cold, rainy Pat McGee Dog Walk in October. They set up the dog walk course, walked our shelter dogs, and cleaned up afterwards. And their coach, Sarah Cartmill, is a regular LHS volunteer.

Vet Tech Students Help Out Again
The seniors from the BOCES Veterinary Technician program stopped by recently to help with chores and spend time with the dogs and cats. We always appreciate their visits.

And the Winner is . . . LHS
Our fans came through again when this LHS wreath received the most votes in the Christmas wreath contest at the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County. As a result, LHS shared in the proceeds from auctioning off the various wreaths from local organizations. The LHS wreath was decorated by Jen Cameron.
