Run Fur Rescues

Organized by SUNY Fredonia Students

During the timeframe of April 17-30, 2021, the Fredonia American Society for Quality (ASQ Club) is supporting the Lakeshore Humane Society in hosting a virtual run/walk - Run Fur Rescues - through RunSignUp. We have plenty of options for you (walk or run - move how you want - and varying distances), so get out there, enjoy the sun, and help the Lakeshore Humane Society in the important work it does! You don’t have to have a pet or participate with a pet to participate. The entry fee is a reasonable $25, plus a small charge for Run SignUp . . . compare that to other virtual races that are typically around $30! And the proceeds go to the Lakeshore Humane Society, specifically the Spay and Neuter Program.

Participants are highly encouraged to take pictures of themselves on race day as well as photos of their furred companions (ok, even the not-so-furred, if that’s your friend); send photos to by May 2 to be featured on Lakeshore’s digital platforms. Speaking of digital platforms, what about yours? Post your participation on your own social media platforms with our hashtag #RunFurRescues. Yes, you get a t-shirt and a medal - that’s part of the fun of the run :) We will be mailing out the goodies shortly after the race closure date. We look forward to seeing you at Run Fur Rescues!

For details and to sign up, go to RunSignUp.
Adoption News

Featured Dog:

Chiquita is a beautiful black lab mix and is approximately 10 months old. She was a bit scared when she came in but has now warmed up to everyone. Chiquita has all of the common lab qualities- friendly, playful and very energetic. She will need an active owner to keep her happy and healthy.  She loves running in the yard and playing ball. She has met a few of the other dogs here and has done well.  If you are interested in this sweetheart , please fill out our online application.
Featured Cats:

Max and Piper

Max, at right, is a silver tabby, born approximately October 2019. He is very friendly and curious. This short haired male is ready for a home of his own.

Piper (below) is a tortie with an interesting face and beautiful green eyes. She was an outside cat, so she has a tipped ear and is confused and a little afraid in her new situation. She is not aggressive and warms up quickly.
Adoption Days are still suspended. Open by appointment only.

Did you ever try to get three pugs to hold still for a picture? Maggie on the right will join the other two in a new home.
Lucy has gone to her “furever” home. She has four human sisters to love her. Sorry Dad, you are really outnumbered!

A case of 2,200 disposable face masks were generously donated by the Ford Buffalo Stamping Plant. They will be a big help in keeping our volunteers and visitors safe.

Remembrance Bricks News

With the return of warmer temperatures and the rebirth Spring brings, many thoughts will turn to those we lost over the Fall and Winter.  A Remembrance Brick is a very personal way to honor those loved ones . . . whether human or animal. Bricks can be installed in the Lakeshore Humane Society's "Brick Garden" or given a place of honor in your own yard. Orders are usually placed twice each year, once in late Spring and once in late Summer.

Several hundred symbols available for Remembrance Bricks can now be viewed on the LHS website.  These symbols cover a very wide range of interests . . . animals, fraternal organizations, military branches, hobbies, occupations, and many more. Symbols can be added to standard or large size bricks, if desired. The cost for one symbol adds $20 to the brick's cost. Two symbols can now be added for $30.  It is important to note how much space the chosen symbols use when deciding what each brick's inscription will be. The information concerning symbol size can be found on the order form.

Please visit the Remembrance Brick page on our website to learn more.
