Roadwork at Blackstone Preserve - Lane Road
The rock excavation and road reconstruction work was concluded on the afternoon of July 16, 2019. The Developer has advised that the paving crew is expected to arrive next Monday to fine grade the surface and on next Tuesday to pave the reconstructed area with a binder course of pavement. This will not necessitate a road closure but will result in a lane closure. Travel delays should be expected.
Lane Road Culverts
As recently reported to the Board of Selectmen, the twin culverts located near the intersection of Sherman Drive are in distress and should be replaced. The same is true of the culvert located near the intersection of Saddlepath Road. Both issues are in the midst of an engineering and permitting effort. The goal is to implement a culvert replace this year to avoid closure of sections of Lane Road. When these construction efforts are underway there will be road closures similar to what was experienced for the reconstruction work related to the Blackstone Preserve Project.
2019 Road Paving Projects
As reported to the Board of Selectmen was an update on the bidding of the 2019 road paving program. Formal bids are to be submitted by Friday July 19, 2019. The bids will be opened on Thursday July 25, 2019 and hopefully awarded shortly thereafter. The actual scope of work to be undertaken will be modified to fit within the available funding. The available funding will be modified to redirect road paving moneys to fix the ailing culverts. This could reduce the paving program by 30% to 60% depending on the final design of the culverts and the associated environmental permit requirements. We should be able to clarify the scope of road paving sections by August 1, 2019. To the extent that we are able to repave sections of Lane Road it will mean that additional traffic delays will occur. As always we will endeavor to minimize the disruption to travel.
