DALI Newsletter November 2019

Welcome to the November 2019 edition of the DALI Newsletter from DiiA. This month, we are very pleased to announce that DiiA membership has grown to more than 200 companies, meaning that the alliance has almost doubled in size over the last 2 years. As well as welcoming new members (see below), we are excited to see how all our members, new and old alike, can contribute to the success of DALI-2, D4i and DiiA.

In preparation for D4i certification we have updated our existing specifications and released a new one, Part 351. Also, we co-organized a very successful seminar in Shanghai, and next week will participate in LuxLive - hope to see you there.

D4i specifications updated and new Part 351 published

DiiA has published new versions of its D4i specifications, which describe power-supply requirements and smart-data capabilities, primarily for intra-luminaire DALI applications. Also, a new specification entitled “DALI Part 351 – Luminaire-mounted Control Devices” has been published for the first time. These DiiA specifications can be downloaded, free of charge, from the DiiA website.

The updated specifications are Parts 150 and Parts 250-253.

Parts 251-253 define storage and access of data in the DALI memory banks of control gear. Data related to the light source, driver and luminaire is available for enhanced asset tracking and performance monitoring.

Parts 150 and 250 relate to power-supply requirements for the DALI bus and connected devices. Part 250 defines control gear with an integrated DALI bus power supply, while Part 150 covers additional, or auxiliary, 24V DC power supplies for situations where additional power is required.

New DALI Part 351

DALI Part 351 is a new specification for control devices that are used in or on, or are attached to, a luminaire. The specification includes requirements for power consumption, a mechanism to arbitrate between multiple application controllers, and a memory bank definition for multi-master devices. The specification includes several device types, which will be explained in a forthcoming Application Note. >> More details

DiiA hosts successful DALI Summit 2019

Held in conjunction with the annual LED professional Symposium (LpS), the first DALI Summit 2019 offered a comprehensive and detailed view of DALI technology, specifications and applications.

ANSI C137.4-2019 standard aligns with D4i specifications

ANSI, the American National Standards Institute, has published a new standard ANSI C137.4-2019 entitled “American National Standard for Lighting Systems—Digital Interface with Auxiliary Power.”

DiiA is represented on the ANSI Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) C137 on Lighting Systems, which developed the new standard.

ANSI C137.4 is based on the DALI standard IEC 62386 with additional characteristics that are aligned with the D4i family of specifications from DiiA.

DiiA Plugfest improves DALI-2 interoperability in the field

DiiA’s latest DALI interoperability test event, or Plugfest, attracted almost 40 representatives from 18 DiiA member companies who joined DiiA staff in Vienna, Austria.

The two-day event, held on September 4-5, offered the opportunity for DiiA members to test their DALI and DALI-2 products for compatibility with other members’ lighting products. This was the first DiiA Plugfest that was open to all DiiA members.

Testing of products from different vendors is intended to improve the quality of DALI in the field. Any interoperability issues identified by system-testing several products on the same DALI bus will provide DiiA with insights to improve the DALI-2 test sequences and certification procedures. >> More details
