Mojatu Foundation Newsletter

Happy New Year from the Mojatu Family. Welcome to 2022! We know that this year will bring you joy and happiness and for all the communities that we support. Luckily, we have some exciting news for you for this year! We will have the FGM Zero Tolerance Conference in February, being OISC registered and most of all the PRTA Award recognition for our work in FGM Training and Ambassadors.
Our mission will never change and we will never stop supporting women and girls in various aspects and providing them support on a daily basis. Therefore, we are continually fighting to protect women and girls through our ongoing projects and programmes. This month's newsletter includes our latest projects, news, courses and events for women and girls from our organisation, partners and beyond💜.

FGM Zero Tolerance Conference

This event marks the FGM Zero Tolerance Day 2022, an awareness day that takes place to raise awareness about FGM. This year’s event reminds this urgency and calls organizations and individuals to intensify and improve cooperation, efforts and commitments for the eradication of this crime within our generation as well as raising awareness. The conference will bring together experts, practitioners, professionals, survivors and community members working towards gender equality and the elimination of FGM, and will discuss actual initiatives and concrete ways in which grassroot organizations and professionals can work together to effectively put an end to FGM.

Mojatu Foundation and partners have launched the new End FGM logo. This will be used in all our marketing materials in pur fight in ending Female Genital Mutilation. If you would like to support us, please email us below.

FGM Support

We engage directly with women and men in communities to raise awareness of the risks of FGM. We support them through training and confidence building – which enable them to advocate for change in their communities. Mojatu Foundation will hold Community FGM Ambassador training sessions in order to build a team of community-based volunteers dedicated to the abolition of female genital mutilation. We are looking for community members and people working in BAME communities where girls and women are living with the effects of or at risk of undergoing FGM to join us.

PRTA Award

Mojatu Foundation achieved this prestigious award for their work in Female Genital Mutilation, 'End FGM Together', Faith Leader and Young Ambassadors' training. The programme exceeded expectations with 44 ambassadors going through the training, 16 faith leaders and 28 young persons. This training was ground breaking and we hope to continue with the programme in the future. Funded by the Home Office, BSBT (Building a Stronger Britain Together), we expanded our reach into communities we would not otherwise have been able to reach, and thank all those involved in the training. The award will be received in London by Julia Paul and Cecily Mwaniki on 28 April 2022, COVID 19 allowing. Well done team!

Healthcare, Hospitality & Childcare Courses

We're offering girls and women from African, Caribbean, and New and Emerging Communities’ training and work placements in the childcare and healthcare sectors. Our courses are aimed at enabling learners to gain accredited qualifications, hands-on work experience and to move into employment and further training upon qualification.

Women Skillshares

Mojatu will be holding women’s skillshares every Thursday. This will include activities such as art, sowing, baking, Learning IT skills coupled with coffee mornings and a chance to meet and share with other women as part of community engagement

Women of Nottingham Podcast

Our podcast 'Women Of Nottingham' is a space to celebrate women and share their struggles, hopes and achievements. Highlighting the remarkable and diverse stories of women in the city of Nottingham.

Kickstart Scheme

We are offering 6-month, paid positions through the government's Kickstart scheme for unemployed 16-24-year-olds on Universal Credit. Join our team and Kickstart your career! If this sounds like you, talk to your Work Coach about Kickstart and see if it could be right for you.

Healthy weight and free weight management support

Healthy weight and free management support available for Nottingham City residents, funded through Nottingham City Council. In the city there is three providers offering support: Slimming World, FIT Fans/FIT Magpies (ran by Notts County Foundation) and Oviva. The Notts County Support will be offering two groups starting in January; one group which will be for female attendees.

English Conversations Training

These are conversational English groups in which we work on improving our English language and conversation skills through reading, listening, speaking and grammar exercises. They are also a great place to meet and connect with new people! The groups cater to three different levels.

Ladies Sports

Driving Theory Training

Driving Theory is a 12-week training course which prepares you to take your driving theory test. It will provide you with the materials necessary to be able to practise for your test and support you through group learning. By the end of the course, you will know exactly what is expected of you in the driving theory test and have the competency and confidence to be able to take and pass the test individually.
