Mojatu Foundation

July 2021

Hello to all our partners and friends!

We hope you are enjoying the joyous weather and staying safe as restrictions ease. We've been up to a lot this month and have even more exciting projects to share with you. As well as new ongoing programmes that you can get involved with.

FGM Training & Support Funding From The PCC

Thanks to funding that we received from the Nottingham Police & Crime Commissioner, we have been delivering bespoke support to FGM survivors, their families and the wider community.

We are offering 1:1 support for survivors, group therapy sessions for women and their families (that include sports, pamper sessions and safe spaces for discussion). And, we are offering community ambassador training to increase community dialogue about gender-based violence.

We will also be raising awareness around FGM through the Mojatu Magazine and social media platforms.

Women's Health Survey

Our And Other Stories workshops run on Wednesday's at 1 pm. Through these workshops, we aim to gain a deeper understanding of why women feel unable to address their sexual health and the stigma that surrounds women's sexuality.

We want to create safe spaces to support each other, learn, and break the stigma. To understand the barriers women experience we have created an anonymous survey for you to answer below if you feel comfortable.

New Kickstarters

Since the beginning of June, we have been facilitating Kickstart placements here at Mojatu and across our partner organisations. The government-run Kickstart scheme aims to support unemployed youth under-25 into paid employment.

Our focus is to nurture the interests and talents the young people already have and further develop them. We have supported them in various roles across our organisation, giving them valuable work skills. Our current Kickstarters are gaining experience in everything from admin to digital content creation, web design, videography and more!

Speaking of Kickstarters, here are Ben and Sunil two Kickstarters who joined Jaya and Edrissa on the latest MDM podcast.
