THE HIGHLIGHTS

There are a lot of lawsuits going on.

THE HAPPENINGS PT 1.

ICYMI, Prez Trump’s not exactly the most environmentally-friendly guy. Hint: over the last few years, he’s taken a red pen to lots of Obama-era laws that’d help cut back on greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment. Includes rolling back restrictions on coal-burning power plants. So yesterday, a group of 29 states and cities said ‘go hug a tree’ and sued the Trump team. The case is expected to go all the way to the Supreme Court.

THE HAPPENINGS PT 2.

In other lawsuit news, this Illinois county’s not a fan of Juul. Juul: a big big big e-cigarette maker that’s gotten in a lot of trouble for allegedly targeting teens. So recently, Lake County, IL sued the biz for supposedly using “deceptive marketing practices” to purposefully get teens addicted to nicotine. This comes as there’s a 78% increase in vaping among young people.

THE HAPPENINGS PT 3.

Lake County’s not the only one pulling out the lawyers. Yesterday, San Francisco - plus Santa Clara County - sued the Trump team over its latest immigration policy. The policy would deny permanent legal status to legal migrants who rely on gov programs like food stamps or subsidized housing - which is expected to cut legal immigration in half. Now, it looks like SF and Santa Clara are suing - apparently over worries the policy would be bad news for the “health and well-being” of migrants.

SO…?

All of these lawsuits have the potential to impact the US in big ways. TBD, TBD, TBD.

THE ACTION

BIZ: Yesterday, Prez Trump hit the delay button on his latest round of tariffs on China - which affect Chinese-made products like cellphones, laptops, and toys. Quick refresher: the tariffs were supposed to become official in September - raising concerns that they’d impact Americans (negatively) during holiday shopping. Now, it looks like Trump’s saying ‘just in case’ and pushing the tariffs back to December 15. All of this comes during increasing fears of a recession. In other news, recently, Verizon - which bought Tumblr in 2013 for, oh, a billion dollars - sold the biz to the owner of Wordpress (a website building biz). For $3 million. Valuation, tumbling. And speaking of which, CBS and Viacom are getting back together

POLITICS: Everyone’s talking about Hong Kong. Reminder: ever since China intro’d a new extradition bill, hundreds of thousands of people in Hong Kong have been taking to the streets to protest. And over the past few days, these protests continued to escalate. As in thousands of protesters headed to Hong Kong’s airport - leading the airport, one of the busiest in the world, to ground all flights. Now, after days of violent clashes and protests, it looks like the airport’s finally resuming flights. Meanwhile, yesterday, multiple top Dems called on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to cut lawmakers’ vacations short so they can vote on two gun control bills. Think: universal background checks. No word yet on this from McConnell.

WORLD: All eyes are on the Taliban. Reminder: over the past week, the US and the Taliban have been talking peace. See: the US wants to pull troops out of Afghanistan - but they’ll only do so if the Taliban agrees to crack down on terrorism. Problem, since recently, the latest round of talks between the two ended early...with no deal. Stay tuned. Meanwhile, yesterday, 3 kids were killed after their family’s motorboat was hit by a huge wave off the coast of Normandy, causing it to capsize. And speaking of which, recently, an Israeli flight attendant died from measles after apparently contracting the disease from a passenger on a flight from New York. This comes as both New York and Israel are facing measles outbreaks.

WHAT TO KNOW

Salmon canon:” a canon…that shoots salmon…over a dam. Krilliant invention.

SAY WHAT?

“I won the pig. All things are possible. I have the power of the pig now” - Bill de Blasio (as in the presidential candidate), after winning a stuffed animal pig at the Iowa State Fair. Hogwash.
