WORLD: Recently, Venezuela’s gov announced that it arrested 2 Americans on suspicion of plotting to overthrow Prez Nicolas Maduro’s gov. You read that right. The gov said it was able to stop an “invasion” from the sea, killing 8 assailants and capturing 2 others. Reminder: it’s no secret that much of the world isn’t a fan of Maduro - including the US, who’s on Team Guaido. That would be Juan Guaido, as in the opposition leader who swore himself in as prez. Now, Venezuela’s pointing fingers at Guaido for allegedly bankrolling the coup attempt. Meanwhile, a new study says the strength of Nazism between regions of Germany could be linked to the number of deaths from the 1918 flu pandemic in that particular area. Yes, really.
BIZ: The happiest place on Earth isn’t so happy. Hint: recently, Disney declared that its quarterly profit fell more than 90 percent. Not a typo. This comes as theme parks and cruise ships have been closed - which alone lost the biz about a billion dollars - and no new movies are being released. Stay tuned. Speaking of which, Airbnb is laying off 1,900 employees - or about 25 percent of its total staff. We’ll repeat: not a typo. This marks the first mass layoff at a tech biz since the coronavirus pandemic hit. And it’s not expected to be the last.
USA: All eyes are on the New York Dem presidential primary. Quick refresher: the only candidate who hasn’t suspended their campaign is former Vice Prez Joe Biden - which pretty much guarantees he’ll be the Dem nominee and go up against Trump in November. So add that to the coronavirus pandemic, and New York state decided to completely cancel its primary. Intro some backlash. Not to mention a lawsuit from former candidate Andrew Yang and a few New Yorkers. Now, it looks like a judge is siding with Yang and ruling that the primary will take place as planned. In other news, Joe Biden is demanding justice over the killing of an unarmed African American man who was jogging in Georgia. This comes after a prosecutor argued there was no probable cause to arrest the two men who shot him.
