WORLD: Everyone’s still talking about that whistleblower complaint over Prez Trump. Quick refresher: a couple weeks ago, it came out that a phone conversation between Trump and Ukraine’s prez - Volodymyr Zelensky - sparked a whistleblower complaint. The call’s topic of discussion: whether Zelensky would open up an investigation into the Bidens. Not a typo. Fast forward to yesterday, and it was revealed that the whistleblower would be (privately) testifying before Congress. Not yet clear when that’d be happening. In other news, Forever 21’s going through some problems. Spoiler: recently, the biz filed for bankruptcy in the US. And speaking of which, Volkswagen’s facing a lawsuit. Big time.
POLITICS: Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince - Mohammed bin Salman - is opening up. Recently, he said ‘I take full responsibility but I didn’t do it’ and declared that he didn’t order Jamal Khashoggi’s killing - but the Saudi gov did. This comes after the CIA pointed fingers at him for the death of Khashoggi (a journalist who spoke out against the Saudi leadership). Meanwhile, recently, Houthi rebels in Yemen released hundreds of detainees, apparently as part of a United Nations peace initiative. And in other news, Afghanistan just headed to the polls. Hint: voter turnout was the lowest...ever. Because, the Taliban.
CLIMATE: Over the weekend, hundreds of Indigenous Bolivians marched in protest of the gov’s lack of action over fires. Reminder: lately, massive fires have been burning forests, ranch lands, and farms in Bolivia - leaving many people without food and shelter. Now, it looks like protesters are demanding that the gov declares a national emergency. In other news, recently, Hurricane Lorenzo strengthened to a Category 5 storm - becoming the strongest hurricane on record in its area. Now, it looks like it’s heading toward the Azores. And speaking of which, Montana is covered in almost two feet of snow - just days after the start of fall. It’s not unheard of to have snow this early in the state - but this much snow is pretty unusual. Stay tuned.
