POLITICS: A lot is going on when it comes to impeachment. We’ll fire off a few: the House of Reps will vote today to send articles of impeachment over to the Senate - meaning the trial could start as early as next Tuesday. Plus new docs released by House Dems apparently show Rudy Giuliani (Trump’s lawyer) & Friends requesting a private meeting with Ukraine’s prez, Volodymyr Zelensky, with Prez Trump’s “knowledge and consent.” Oh, and the same docs show that former Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanavitch was being closely monitored by a Republican - and that Giuliani pushed to get rid of her in exchange for dirt on Biden. The plot thickens. Meanwhile, Iran just announced multiple arrests over the Ukraine plane crash.
WORLD: Yesterday, a plane returning to LAX for an emergency landing dumped jet fuel on an elementary school playground, leaving at least 20 kids and 9 adults injured. Not good. Speaking of which, the World Health Organization just released a report detailing the greatest health challenges over the next decade. Climate change was at the top of the list, with things like air pollution and extreme weather events the biggest concerns. What else made the list: drug resistance and widespread epidemics. And in other news, BlackRock - the world’s biggest fund manager and a key player on Wall St. - says it’ll have climate change in mind when it comes to investments. For now, it’s ditching bizes involved with coal production.
SPORTS: The sign-stealing news continues. Quick refresher: the other day, Houston Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch were suspended by Major League Baseball...then fired by the Astros. The why: the team reportedly stole opponents’ pitching signs during the 2017 season, which is when they won the World Series. Now, it looks like the Boston Red Sox are firing manager Alex Cora, who was apparently involved with the sign-stealing over at the Astros. In other news, for the first time ever, the average pay for a WNBA player will reach six figures. Plus players are guaranteed full pay for maternity leave and other improved family benefits. Gender equality slam dunk.
