SCAMPTON CHURCH - CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 EMERGENCY - UPDATE 2
At the conclusion of my last message about the national emergency, I said that I would keep you up to date with what's happening at Scampton Church and what we are planning to do to help everyone as much as possible.
We are still monitoring The Government Advice and that of The Church of England and Lincoln Diocese. A letter from The Archbishops of Canterbury and York has reiterated the Prime Minister's instruction that our church building at Scampton, along with all others in the UK, must now be closed; not only for public worship, but for private prayer as well. It is therefore with great regret that Scampton Church is now locked. However:
WE PREVIOUSLY SAID THAT THIS DOESN'T MEAN THAT EVERYTHING STOPS - AND IT HASN'T!
Here are some things that we have put together to help both practically and spiritually:
i) A note has been put through all letter boxes in Scampton Village encouraging people to subscribe to this newsletter. Thirty-nine households in Scampton Village now receive it. Please encourage people to subscribe by e mailing email@example.com. If you wish to share any 'community help' information please e mail it to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will include it in UPDATE 3.
ii) A 'self help' Facebook group has been set up for sharing information and caring for our community in Scampton Village. The group is for residents of Scampton Village or for people with relatives or friends in Scampton Village. You can access it HERE.
We're are also linking with Scampton Parish Council's Facebook group where help can be obtained.
iii) A 'Daily Reflections' page has been set up on the website. These are some simple story reflections to encourage you during the isolation and downtime we are currently enduring. You can access it HERE
iv) Fosters butchers in Lincoln have indicated that they will deliver to Scampton village on a regular basis if enough people are interested. Ursula Lambert has volunteered to co-ordinate a list of people who are interested in making this happen. Please ring Ursula on 01522 731603 if you are interested in a door to door delivery by Fosters. Fosters sell much more than meat and you can view what they are able to deliverHERE
v) Plans are in hand for myself and the team at Scampton Church to create family services for Easter on video and post them to the website so that we maintain our local family worship. As children are being 'home schooled' an on-line 'RE' lesson is also being planned.
vi) We have moved the food donation box into the porch of the church. Please be encouraged to drop a tin into it whist you are exercising.
We realise that not everyone has access to e mail or uses social media, so please pass on the word that should anyone need any help during the next few weeks due to Corona virus isolation, please ring either me on 01522 730167 or Barbara Young on 01522 731900 and we will do whatever we can to arrange help for you.
More updates will follow in the days and weeks to come.
Bless you and keep safe everyone,
Sue Rev. Sue Deacon (local minister)
PS: I'll leave the lovely churchyard pictures on this message to remind us all of God's beautiful creation and ask you to pray this prayer with me:
Gracious God, give skill, sympathy and resilience
to all who are caring for the sick,
and your wisdom to those searching for a cure.
Strengthen them with your Spirit,
that through their work many will be restored to health;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
