Summer Months, Summer Fun

Each year, more than 300 million people travel on long-distance flights (more than four hours long), with the total number of long-distance trips (about 657 million) happening from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The summer months are, in fact, the perfect time to travel for some summer fun. As you plan your itinerary and pack your clothes, it's important to add blood clot prevention to the list of things to do before heading out of town.

Sitting for too long, particularly on long haul flights of four hours or more, can pose a risk for the formation of blood clots in the legs or arms (deep vein thrombosis or DVT) and life-threatening blood clots in the lung (pulmonary embolism or PE). Get some helpful travel tips from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and know what to watch out for on the way to your summer destinations with these four signs of a blood clot you need to know from Self Magazine

June is Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) Awareness Month. APS is an autoimmune disorder in which the body can clot abnormally, placing people with APS at increased risk for DVT and PE. Read more

Community Connections

Thank You for Helping Us Reach Our Goal

Together, and as part of our Every Day in May campaign, we set out to raise one dollar for each of the 8,494 lives lost in May due to blood clots. Thanks to our incredible community of supporters, we surpassed our goal and raised a total of $9,205! These funds will have a significant impact on our organization and programs. Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal. We also are grateful to those of you who shared a dedication for our Every Day in May tributes web page. We look forward to sharing the meaningful work that your generosity will help us accomplish in the future.
