The Pope Invites Us!
Vatican City, Italy (November 2017) -- Three Consortium leaders were speakers at a Pontifical Academy of Science meeting on air pollution, climate change and health.  Steering Committee member and cardiologist, Dr. Mimi Guarneri and Advisory Committee member, Dr. Howard Frumkin both spoke about the connections between human and planetary health; Mason 4C director, Dr. Edward Maibach, issued a call to action to health professionals worldwide to lead the effort to educate the public and policymakers about the health impacts of climate change and health opportunities associated with climate solutions.    

The Declaration of the Health of People, Health of Planet and Our Responsibility resulted from the data and concepts presented at the workshop: Health of People, Health of Planet and Our Responsibility; Climate Change, Air Pollution, and Health
Consortium Director, Dr. Mona Sarfaty co-authors, "Countdown tracks progress on health effects of climate change," published this month in the BMJ.

The Lancet Countdown's 2017 report tracks 40 indicators across five areas, arriving at three key conclusions:
  • The human symptoms of climate change are unequivocal and potentially irreversible
  • The delayed response to climate change over the past 25 years has jeopardized human life and livelihoods.
  • The past 5 years have seen an accelerated response, and in 2017 momentum is building across a number of sectors; there are clear and unprecedented opportunities for public health. READ MORE
Health Care Worldwide Calls for Action on Climate Change

Declaration endorsed by institutions representing more than 10,000 hospitals

Bonn, Germany—With global climate negotiations wrapping up their second week at COP23, leading hospitals and health systems around the world call on the health sector to play a leadership role in tackling climate change.

Global Green Healthy Hospitals Network, in 49 countries, representing 31,000 hospitals and health centers, joined Health Care Call to Action on Climate Change
