🌳 Lakeshore Nature Preserve Volunteer Event

When: TODAY, 9 AM - 12 PM
Where: Picnic Point, 2004 University Bay Dr

Hosted by UW-Madison Lakeshore Nature Preserve

"Help care for the Lakeshore Nature Preserve. Activities may include removing invasive plants, planting native plugs, collecting native seed and maintaining trails. Tools and gloves provided. Dress to work outdoors; long pants and closed-toe shoes required. Work is conducted off-trail on uneven ground. Groups and minors require advance notice. Canceled in case of steady precipitation or severe weather--high winds, thunder/lightning. 

Meet at UW parking lot 129 next to the entrance to Picnic Point (2004 University Bay Drive).

🍽 Community Picnic

"The 4th annual Building Community Together Picnic will once again be a fun, vibrant celebration of Madison's cultural and ethnic diversity. Meet Open Doors volunteers who participate in welcoming refugees and help celebrate and connect with refugees that call Madison home. The picnic takes place in and around the Olin Park shelter.

This is a potluck picnic with fantastic food every year. Please bring a dish to pass! Food will be served at 1 PM. ODFR will be providing utensils, drinks, and bread as well as some ethnic dishes provided by area restaurants and grocery stores."

💪🏽 First to Ratify!

"The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin (LWVWI) and the League of Women Voters of Dane County (LWVDC) are hosting a gathering at the Capitol Square on Sunday, June 23 at noon to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Wisconsin’s ratification of the 19th Amendment.

The program begins at noon at the Forward statue on the State Street corner of Capitol Square, featuring Joy Cardin, former Wisconsin Public Radio host, State Representatives Joan Ballweg and Melissa Sargent, and first-person interpreter Rose Stephenson portraying Ripon-born suffragist and founder of the League of Women Voters, Carrie Chapman Catt, among other presenters.

Immediately following the program, the gathered crowd will march around Capitol Square, led in song by the Raging Grannies. League members will be on hand to assist the public with voter registration. Families and friends can make a suffrage sash, enjoy free frozen vanilla custard, take a photo in the Forward statue pose, and view the Wisconsin Historical Society exhibit, The Woman’s Hour Has Struck, Wisconsin: The First State to Ratify the 19th Amendment, now on display in the Capitol."

👖 Zero Waste Madison Clothing Swap

"We hope you'll come to Common Ground - Middleton on June 29th for a clothing swap! Come join us and the wider Madison community to trade things from our closets.

At the swap, you can trade the following:

  • New or gently used and clean clothes
  • New or gently used and clean shoes
  • New or gently used and clean jackets and outerwear 

You'll be able to take home as many items as you bring; we recommend bringing 5 - 10 items but you are more than welcome to bring more or less. All items should be in good condition (think of things that you would want to take home yourself!). 

You can stop by Common Ground on Friday evening from 5 - 7 PM to drop off your items in advance or drop them off starting at 10 AM on the day of the swap. From 10 - 10:30, we will sort items, and the swap will be 10:30-1. "
