The month of December is a very special time on the Valley Catholic School Campus as we prepare for our traditional music concerts, Christmas programs and annual food drive. The season of Advent grounds us in our faith, and we look forward with hope and love to the Christmas miracle. Celebrating our children, serving the needs of the poor, and a deep commitment to our faith are values that bring us closer together as a community.
The Valley Catholic School Board is currently joining with the Foundation, Maryville and SSMO Ministries Boards in a campus-wide strategic planning process. Each of these entities is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon, and together we are looking at how we can further the mission of the Sisters through the year 2025. Among the things the school will be examining are who we serve, affordability, the educational needs in the local community and whether this could lead to an expansion and/or renovation of our high school. Long range planning encourages us to identify potential opportunities and prepare for them, always with an eye toward bettering our school and the impact it has on students and our community. It will be interesting to see where this planning process could lead us.
This coming Monday and Tuesday, December 10-11, Valley Catholic Middle School will be undergoing a STEM accreditation visit. STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, and a team of local educators will be here to evaluate how well our middle school curriculum invites students to collaboratively solve real world science-based problems. VCMS is the first middle school in Oregon undergoing the STEM certification process through AdvancEd (the organization that accredits both Valley Catholic middle and high school).
On Friday, November 23 (Thanksgiving weekend) a test call of our Emergency Notification System went out to school families. If you did not receive a call and would like to be notified of weather-related closures and other school emergencies, please contact the school office and we will update your information.
In closing, I encourage you to take time this holiday season to reflect on what is truly important. May Christmas bring peace and joy to your family, and time for fun and relaxation together.

Scrip Program - Orders Due by 3:00 p.m. on December 17
Many of you may not know that a terrific fundraising program called Scrip is available at Valley Catholic School. You can raise money without buying unwanted items, without selling door-to-door, and with no extra cost to you. Supporting VCS has never been easier!
How It Works:
Scrip refers to gift certificates or gift cards. VCS is able to purchase gift cards from hundreds of retailers nationwide at a discount, which you can then buy at face value. The difference is our profit. These are the same gift cards that you would purchase if you went to the retailer directly. By purchasing these gift cards before you shop for your everyday items - like groceries, gas, clothes, restaurants – we raise money, without you having to spend a penny extra. It’s just that simple.
How To Participate:
The Scrip team is now accepting orders. This month orders can be submitted until Monday, December 17 at 3 p.m. Scrip orders will be delivered to your child by Friday, December 21. Deliveries will be made to all three school buildings; please include the delivery information on the order form. Scrip order forms can be found here in the parent’s guide or in each school office. Drop your completed forms, including payment, at the VCEMS office or email your order to email@example.com.
