EECON 2019 - Program Released

The Electric Energy Society of Australia (EESA) is hosting the 2 day National Electric Energy Conference – EECON 2019 at the International Convention Centre in Sydney on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th of November 2019. The theme of EECON 2019 is “Engineering leadership providing sustainable, customer-centric electric energy solutions through the interactive grid”.
The conference program has now been released. Please click here to download the comprehensive program.

Our conference opens on Tuesday morning 26th November with two great keynote speakers who will provide a great understanding of the key challenges we are facing in the electric energy area.
The first is Peter Brown - General Manager of PSC New Zealand – and a keynote speaker at the EEA Conference in Auckland NZ in June this year. Peter’s topic is “The future is already here!” and he will be discussing a range of concepts and case studies from PSC’s experiences around the world with all the changes occurring as a result of the growth of distributed energy resources.
The second keynote speaker is Violette Mouchaileh – Executive General Manager, Emerging Markets and Services, Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO). Violette will present on the changing energy landscape in Australia and the integration of distributed energy resources and renewables, empowering consumers and contributing to a reliable and secure power supply.
Following these keynote presentations and the morning tea break, the EECON 2019 “technical” program begins. This has 30 detailed presentations over the 2 days covering key subjects in the areas of Asset Management, System Security, New Technology and System Evolution, Transmission Development and Regulatory Changes and Safety Development and People. Thus there will be 5 blocks of 2 parallel sessions (each with 3 detailed presentations) over the 2 days and these parallel sessions will be closely coordinated so that people can easily swap between presentations to follow subjects of key personal interest to them.
Thus on Day 1, following the morning tea break there will be 2 parallel streams each with 3 technical presentations within the “Technology and Evolution” and the “Regulatory and Transmission” themes. We will then break for lunch in the Exhibition area and this will provide attendees with plenty of opportunity to discuss matters with our great range of exhibitors as well as network with other attendees.

Following the lunch break there will be a further 2 parallel streams with 3 technical presentations in the “Technology and Evolution” and the “Regulatory and Transmission” themes. Following the afternoon tea break there will be 2 further parallel sessions with the themes “Technology and Evolution” and “Security.”

At the end of the technical presentations on Day 1, attendees are then invited for Networking Drinks in the Exhibition area and following this the Conference Dinner at L’Aqua.
On Wednesday 27th November, day 2 of EECON opens with the keynote speaker Jill Cainey - the General Manager Networks from Energy Networks Australia - who will present on the current status of the ENA’s “Network Transformation Roadmap.”
This will then be followed by 2 parallel streams each with 3 technical presentations with the themes of “People and Safety” and “Asset Management”.

Following the morning tea break there will be a further 2 parallel streams each with 3 technical presentations on the same themes.
Lunch again will be held in the Exhibition area with plenty of opportunity to discuss the “latest” with exhibitors and network with other attendees.

The final plenary session will be a “Brains Trust Panel” who will provide their views of the conference content, the new learnings and technology issues they have seen and following those brief presentations there will be an open Q&A session – such that the audience can also make their observations and learnings known – or ask more questions on particular subject areas. Following this the conference prize winners will be announced.

Potential Sponsors, Exhibitors and Attendees – save the dates 26th and 27th November 2019

This is a technical conference, providing ongoing professional development for people in the electric energy industry. Iinvite you to come along, listen, participate, question, network and most of all - be informed!

I am firmly of the view that to be successful in the electric energy businesses of tomorrow engineers need to understand the detailed changes occurring in their engineering area of expertise as well as the “big picture” overview of the changes that are occurring. They need to have a good understanding of the impact these changes so that they can successfully make the transition to this much more complicated world.
