🏆 Awards of Excellence Winners

Every year, our community nominates exceptional peers who go above and beyond in their industry skills and/or service. Here are the 2021 OMPA Awards of Excellence winners.

Rising Star: Deante Grinner, for coming up strong as a skilled drone pilot, swing, robotic technician, stage manager, and grip & electric professional. Currently working as Studio Manager for CoachSargeCine. Nominated for his "initiative, passion, dedication to learn, his leadership skills and incredible sense of humor."

Service & Inspiration: Ashley Mellinger & Dawn Jones Redstone, for pushing for a film tax incentive that incentivizes hiring crews from marginalized communities. As Ashley said last night, it's a little weird to accept an award for something that hasn't happened yet, so "let's earn this award together!"

Industry Champion: Senator Mark Hass, for his many years of championing our industry at the state level. In his time on the Senate & FInance Committee, he was a key supporter of the greenlight labor rebate and OPIF tax incentive program.

Commitment to Good: Phoenix, Oregon production team, for responding to crises, including the pandemic and wildfires, with creative ways to raise and donate money to those who need it most.

Creative Innovation: Artists Repertory Theatre, for using a PPP loan to create their second iteration of "Mercury Company," an arts initiative that hired over 90 artists to create 20 projects in a six-week period in October and November of 2020.

Award of Excellence: Kenji Sugahara, for excellence in his craft as Chief Drone Pilot at A-Cam Aerials, President & CEO of Drone Service Providers Alliance, an attorney, an Oregon Tourism Commissioner, and representative on the Federal Aviation Administration’s Drone Advisory Committee.
