Centering Diversity in Oregon's Incentive Program

A Q&A with subcommittee Co-Chair Ashley Mellinger
Angelica Ponce works alongside Writer/Director Dawn Jones Redstone on Dawn's latest film.
"Ultimately, in an ideal universe, we don’t live in a world where we need to create these kinds of incentive programs because the culture we are looking to create already exists. That is much further down the road..." —Ashley Mellinger, Actor & Producer

Check out Ashley’s conversation with OMPA Executive Director Lisa Cicala to learn all about this subcommittee’s important work to incentivize diverse hiring on production by evolving the state's tax incentive program.
Learn more about this equity initiative

Here's an easy, low-stakes way you can help right now: For each production you work on in Oregon, ask the production team to fill out this confidential survey about individuals’ roles and how folks identify.

This data will be helpful for developing the proposed legislation, and it's a good way to track the progress of equity initiatives across Oregon's media production industry.

And a special thanks to...

As we start planning for our (Virtual) 2021 Annual Showcase, we're grateful for the amazing 2020 event West Coast Event Productions put on for us.
WCEP offers so much more than the name implies: custom fabrication, lighting design, print & graphics, floral design... Plus a massive inventory of props and rentals to help create your temporary worlds (whether that' a 1-day commercial or a months-long feature).

FORTITUDE | Go Get. Go Far.

How Bend-based Producer Rebecca Hynes sees the future.
Rebecca Hynes is pushing the status quo for women and indie filmmakers in the adventure-doc world. Writer David Poulshock caught up with her to see how this jet-setter is staying active in production during the pandemic. We start with River Looters—accepted into eight festivals so far, including her dream venue, Mountainfilm in Telluride, CO.

  • A new COVID-19 travel advisory was issued by CA, OR, and WA on Friday. While Oregonians are encouraged to stay home and avoid non-essential travel to other states or countries—in order to reduce the risk of virus transmission and bringing the virus back to Oregon—it "does not apply to individuals who cross state or country borders for essential travel" which "includes work and study.”
