Program Updates
Our DownCity Designers and MET Design/Build Studio interns are teaming up to work on a large scale project for their clients at United Way of RI. Their installation will transform the patio space at United Way's Olneyville headquarters, overlooking the Woonasquatucket River. Our young designers are researching climate change and storm surge, and their design will address the theme of resilience along this vulnerable Providence waterway.

Registration for our free DownCity Designers spring afterschool program is now open. Participants receive high school credit for their participation, through the RIDE Advanced Coursework Network. Register today and learn to build as we work together to make this installation a reality!

Our middle school designers in DownCity Discovery had a great client review with the Audubon Society of RI and received helpful feedback on their creative designs for nesting boxes that will be placed at Audubon Wildlife Refuges across RI. This week they began building new houses for barred owls, wood ducks, and bluebirds!
Our brand new CityWorks fellowship program launched this month with an extraordinary cohort of inaugural fellows. Fellows are working together over the next seven months to produce an installation along the Providence Riverwalk downtown. This month, they are exploring their site and engaging with stakeholders as they begin to understand the opportunities and constraints that will shape their project. Stay tuned as they launch their design competition later this winter!
We've hosted two great career exploration and portfolio prep workshops for high schoolers through EXPLORE DESIGN this fall. Our third and final session will be focused on building a website and sharing your art and design work. This free Saturday workshop is open to all RI high school students. Spaces are still available, sign up below!
** The date for this sessions has changed: Session 3 will be held on Saturday, December 8 from 1 - 5 pm.
We had a blast at our 2018 Community Builder at last month. It was amazing to connect with friends, community partners, and supporters at our studio while sharing great food and drinks provided by Durk's Bar-B-Q, Saint Monday, Bucktown, and Long Live Beerworks.

Our youth presenters, Emmanuel and Leslyann, spoke passionately about their experiences at DownCity and shared how our programs have helped them develop critical thinking and leadership skills as well as deepening their interest in design as a career.

Meet Annie! Our Program Director Lexie Whipple has welcomed this friendly face into her home. Lucky us, she hangs out at DCD during the day! This cute pup loves taking naps in the office and playing with new friends she meets in the studio.
