June 15, 2020
Next week we will continue trimming trees, installing drain socks, potholing, and starting some light sawcutting on Delridge Way SW. To complete this work, lanes will be shifted around work zones. Please follow posted traffic signs.
We will trim trees in the public right-of-way that hangs over the sidewalk as well as tree limbs that hang 14 feet or lower over Delridge Way SW.

If you have questions or concerns about specific trees in the right-of-way, please contact us immediately at DelridgeTransit@seattle.gov or 206-775-8739.
What to expect the week of June 15
We will work in all three zones at the same time, from north to south and starting on the west side of Delridge Way SW.  No-Parking signs will be posted on both sides of the street in each phase of work to shift traffic around the work zones.

Work by zone
  • Zone A (West Seattle Bridge to SW Findlay St)
    • SW Alaska, SW Dakota, and SW Genesee streets
      • We will be conducting utility and storm work. Please expect traffic to be shifted to the east side of Delridge Way SW.
  • Zone B (SW Findlay St to north of SW Orchard St)
    • SW Findlay St to SW Juneau St
      • We will be installing utility pipes. Please expect and traffic to be shifted to the east side of Delridge Way SW.
  • Zone C (North of SW Orchard St to White Center)
    • We will continue adjusting traffic signals at select locations in Zone C. Please follow posted traffic signs.
Work throughout the corridor
  • Trees will be trimmed in the public right-of-way along Delridge Way SW
  • Installation of “drainage socks” to prevent pipes from being clogged during construction
  • Continued potholing to prepare for utility work
  • Light sawcutting of road pavement throughout the corridor
  • In each of the three work zones, travel lanes will be reduced to one lane in each direction with restricted turns. Please follow posted traffic signs.
Additional tree trimming work
As part of this project, we will upgrade sidewalks and curb ramps, replace panels, and mobilize large equipment in the street. To prepare for this work, overgrown vegetation on private property (tree limbs, shrubs, etc.) that extend into the public right-of-way will need to be trimmed.

Please trim trees and plants that hang over the sidewalk as well as tree limbs that hang 14 feet or lower over the street. If plants are not trimmed, we will begin trimming them as we prepare for sidewalk and curb ramp work later this summer.
Project map

Below is a map of the project corridor. Please note that we are staging equipment at the following streets off of Delridge Way SW and through traffic will be restricted.
  • SW Dakota St, west side of Delridge
  • SW Edmonds St, west side of Delridge
  • SW Edmonds St, east side of Delridge
  • SW Hudson St, west side of Delridge
  • SW Hudson St, east side of Delridge
  • SW Puget Blvd, east side of Delridge
    • We will close the gravel alley behind the apartments to the first driveway and use this area for staging.
  • SW Brandon St, west side of Delridge
  • SW Juneau St, east side of Delridge (summer only)
  • SW Willow St, west side of Delridge
We will begin working at the same time near the West Seattle High-Rise Bridge, SW Findlay St and SW Orchard St intersections and work our way from north to south.
 Stay informed during construction
Construction timelines are always subject to change and we will continue to provide updates. The best way to stay up to date about project benefits, detours, work hours, lane closures, and other improvements is by signing up to get our weekly construction updates.
Delridge Way SW will be open to traffic during construction. We will maintain one lane of traffic in each direction at most times during construction, though temporary detours may be needed.
What to expect during construction

Generally, we anticipate working weekdays between 7 AM and 7 PM.  Impacts will include:
  • Noise, dust, and large vehicle traffic
  • Temporary construction parking restrictions for weeks at a time
  • Periodic traffic detours
  • Vehicle lane shifts around work zones
  • Temporary utility service impacts
  • Flaggers to help direct traffic
  • Temporary bus detours and bus stop relocations
Visit rapidridehline.participate.com for more information on what to expect and read our project FAQs. We will be in touch in the coming weeks about where work will be starting and what to expect.
If you have concerns about accessibility or other impacts of construction, please send us your address, contact information, and concerns so that we can better understand and work together throughout construction. You can reach us at DelridgeTransit@Seattle.gov or call 206-775-8739.
Project schedule
Street trees are regulated by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT). A street tree is planted in the public right-of-way, usually in the planting strip (space between sidewalk and road).
Stay updated
More details and opportunities to get involved will be announced as they are scheduled.

Visit our project websites at
www.seattle.gov/transportation/DelridgeTransit and www.kingcounty.gov/metro/hlineinfo for additional information on what to expect.
West Seattle High-Rise Bridge Safety Project
The closure of the West Seattle Bridge has impacted access to the Delridge community and how we all get around. Our Delridge Way SW – RapidRide H Line team is committed to keeping streets open and moving as much as possible and doing everything we can to minimize additional disruptions caused by construction and paving. West Seattle High-Rise Bridge Safety project and sign up for email alerts to get the latest about the bridge.

At the City of Seattle, we are continuing to follow guidance from federal, state, and local leaders and our public health partners regarding COVID-19. To keep our crews and the public safe, we have required all contractors to submit updated jobsite Health and Safety Plans to ensure that they comply with the safety and social distancing requirements in the Governor’s Order.
Thank you Seattle Voters
This project is jointly funded by King County Metro and SDOT’s Levy to Move Seattle, approved by voters in 2015. Learn more about the levy at www.seattle.gov/LevytoMoveSeattle. This will be the first RapidRide project funded by the Levy to Move Seattle to break ground, marking a major milestone for the levy!
