Coltura Launches Campaign to Electrify City Fleets

Want to make a big, measurable difference in the CO2 output of your city?  Coltura’s new guide tells you how.

Many cities are declaring climate emergencies and passing strongly worded climate resolutions. Yet some of these same cities are stuck in their old polluting ways, buying gasoline-powered vehicles for their fleets that will still be spewing carbon dioxide and air pollution after 2030. Cities must lead and model the transition from fossil fuels.  Electrifying public vehicles is a top priority. Cities can electrify the vast majority of their vehicles, and save money in the process.

It is up to citizens to speak up to ensure that their cities stop investing in polluting vehicles that perpetuate the fossil fuel industry.

Coltura has created a guide for citizen action that tells you the basics for getting your city off gasoline. Check out the citizen fleet electrification action guide here.

Take Action to Electrify Your City's Fleets

U.S. House, Senate introduce 2040 Gasoline Phaseout Bills

Members in both houses of Congress recently iintroduced the Zero Emission Vehicles Act — companion bills that would require that all new passenger vehicles sold in the US be zero emissions vehicles (electric or hydrogen powered) by 2040.  US Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), along with Kamala Harris (D-CA), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Kiristen Gillibrand (D-NY) introduced the Senate’s ZEV Act.

Representative Mike Levin (D-CA) introduced the House version. This bill would require that 50% of all new passenger vehicles sold in 2030 in the US be ZEVs, climbing to 100% by 2040.   Please ask your representatives to cosponsor these bills.  A strong showing of support can help pave the way for a national gasoline phaseout under the next administration.

New York Commits to Double Its Electric Vehicle Fleet

New York City had only 211 electric vehicles in its fleet in 2014; today it has 2,200, .six years ahead of its goal.  NYC now aims to have at least 4,000 on-road electric vehicles in its city fleet by 2025.  The city has also installed the nation's largest network of solar-powered electric vehicle chargers.   Read more here.

Atmospheric COKeeps Climbing

Present policies aren't moving us fast enough to avoid a climate emergency. Atmospheric CO2 reached 414.7 parts per million, a new record per this report from NOAA.

To bend this curve down, we must join together to rid the world of fossil fuel use.  Stopping gasoline use is one of the most important things we can do.

City Fleet Project -- Get Involved

Coltura has been successful influencing cities to electrify their fleets of cars. It’s time to expand nationally and make a bigger impact! Help us raise $10,000 to inspire and train environmental activists across the country to learn how to move their city governments off public fleets.
