G-Bar News

A Publication of the Greenville County Bar Association

It has been my great pleasure to serve as your President this past year.  It truly is a highlight of my life and legal career, and I have been honored to follow so many great lawyers before me.  I began the year with an article on the Bar’s new pro bono effort and stood before the Bar at the February CLE explaining my vision for a “Justice League” in which we help one another fulfill our Lawyers Oath to “assist the defenseless or oppressed by ensuring that justice is available to all citizens.”  We formed a new Pro Bono Committee in which many of our Bar Members spent long hours developing strategies and implementing a pro bono program in the 13th Circuit.  The end result of this effort was the founding of the Greenville Bar Pro Bono Foundation and the commitment of a multitude of our members to participate in the new program.  I am particularly grateful to Jennifer Howe who spearheaded this effort and to Justice John Few who promoted the development of a software program to connect our lawyers to needs in the community.  There is much work left to do, and I hope you will join in as the program becomes functional in 2018.
In addition, the Bar had other firsts this year.
